A small dark room of bead curtains and velvet cushions resembles a scene right out of a 1970s basement apartment. Hazy candlelight reflects against brown and gold wallpaper and wall mirrors, setting the mood for groups squeezing onto couches in the rear as well as duos canoodling at tables. Bartenders supply the booze--during happy hour and well into the witching hours--as well as the beats, bringing their turntablist friends to spin nighttime rock sets that get the crowd going.

  1. was with a bunch of friends this past friday and everything was happy and fun until we ordered drinks - it wasn't crowded or hectic enough to justify the bar tenders attitude problem.
  2. sassy fun- minus rude service

  1. Good rock tunes, decent drink prices and cool people guarantee a good time, plus it's decorated like some movie star's home in the San Fernando Valley circa 1970.

Rip Off Ville, Takes forever to get a drink

by rajeevK

I live pretty close by, and have been here at least 3 times over the past month, including a large group 2 weeks ago that spent over $300 on drinks and shots, but i wont be going back any more. I was there last night (a sat night) with my buddy, the place was pretty packed, but it took a really long time to get the bartender's attention to order. That's good for the bar no? Unfortunately it was the bartenders just giving free beers and shots to their friends ( i am not kidding!!)

And then, when we did place our order for 2 beers, the male bartender told me it was $12 bucks, and since i didn't have enough cash, I gave him my credit card to open a tab, and was told that it was a $20 minimum. Fast forward about 30 mins later and we decide to go somewhere else, I go to the tall female bartender to close my tab by paying cash, but she tells me my 2 beers cost $14, and that it was a $25 minimum!! Are you kidding me? Btw she tells me this after making me wait about 10 mins while she poured her guy friend a nice vodka shot (for free of course) She called the other bartender and asked him "what is the price of 2 beers here" , and the guy was scared to answer, and she finished it by saying "14 dollars" before he could say anything. If it wasn't so sad, it would actually be funny.

I don't write many reviews for dive bars, since they are essentially places where anything sort of goes, but i don't think i ll be spending any more money at this place. I just wonder if the owners know what goes on here? I am guessing this place will sort of go the route of all the other many LES places that open and do really well, but eventually close after burning a big hole in the promoter's pockets due to shoddy staff.

sassy fun- minus rude service

i've come into this bar at times when i'm around rivington. i was with a bunch of friends this past friday and everything was happy and fun until we ordered drinks - it wasn't crowded or hectic enough to justify the bar tenders attitude problem. however- reading from the reviews below- i guarantee it's the same monster. cookie-cutter handsome guy with an SERIOUS chip on his cute little shoulder. i was too polite and smiled off his grumpy ways. anyway, we all fickled off to another bar shortly afterwards..not a big deal.

advice for this bartender: don't frown at a beautiful & polite girl-no one likes you-go eat worms.

owner: find a new bartender please- this is silly!!

  • Pros: great place to hide from people
  • Cons: bartender needs a hug & prozac

Relaxed atmosphere

by Kxx

One evening when my friends and I didn't feel like going to Chelsea for a good night out, we ended up here through a recommendation of one of the friends we were with. Loved this place! No cover needed, it is crowded though. The crowd was pretty easygoing and the bartenders were pretty hot. The drinks are pretty stiff, and the bartender thinks he deserves a good tip because of this (he had the nerve to "yell" at my friend for not tipping him for her long island after I tipped him). Other than that, it was a pretty cool vibe with great music. However, we did run in to some pretty pathetic men that crowded around us. A dentist, journalist, and a lawyer. It was pretty interesting. Other than that, I would suggest this place as a great bar to go to if your looking for just a chill night in the city. I'll definitely go back.

  • Pros: stiff drinks, good music, no cover, attractive bartenders
  • Cons: bartenders are rude, crowded

Rude Bartender and he steals money!

by avamarie

Went there on a Friday night (Aug 29th)and had the WORST service I ever had at a bar. My friends and I are all in the restaurant/bar business and our bartender was eating dinner while we waited for drinks and acted annoyed when we asked for another drink. Then when we told him one of the beers were flat, he reluctantly got another beer and ordered me to take a sip while he was there so he wouldn't have to get up again. He was short, rude, abrupt and downright nasty in EVERY interaction with us no matter how nice (AND PATIENT) we were with him. We will never go there again and will tell others not to go. The "tragically hip" atmosphere doesn't need to include rude service. Additionally, we tipped him 20% in cash then left another $6 on a bill in which he decided to make $16!! Watch out for this place!!

Addendum: After calling to complain, a week later the owner credited me back my $10. Thank you!

  • Pros: Honest Owner or Manager
  • Cons: The Friday night bartender
