Best! Thiing! Ever!

I never bother writing reviews for anything. But this wine store....is by far the best thing i could have wished for in this neighborhood. Ridiculously nice staff and amazingly selected wine. For someone who is a cheap lush like me, the fact that they have a great selection of 15 - 20 dollar wines that are actually really interesting and delicious is an amazing find in NY. May they live forever!
Best wine store in the EV and LES!!

I don't get these reviews! Discovery has both a large selection and a GREAT selection. And the staff has never led me wrong, whatever I wanted to spend. Get to know the staff and you will have the perfect neighborhood wine store. And, they're open on Sunday!
- Pros: Customer service, quality of wine
Where the beef? Or Bordeaux, or burgundy?

It's the holiday season and I need to buy gifts. My friends, well at least my wine geek friends and parents, will really appreciate some fine wines and spiirits.
I stopped in to discovery and thought such an attractive store might be the perfect spot for one stop shopping. Unfoprtunately I was mistaken. The selection is just ok, some of the esoteric stuff was appealing but not cheap. In fact the entire inventory seems to be a touch expensive.
If you are looking for the esoteric be prepared. While the staff was there, they did acknowledge my presence on this earth, they were not to be found when i really needed them and when I finally tracked down someone the advise i got was less than helpful. Well no in fact it was perfectly helpful, it was to try the wine to see if I like it. Yeah that's what one has to do if you can't find a good salesperson.
I'll give Discovery another chance after the holidays but they really need to work on a few things before they'll get me to spend any money there.
Just figured out why this store has such a high rating....

I've been really perplexed on how such a mediocre store can have such a long list of glowing reviews...then it finally dawned on me - ALL of these glowing reviews were written by the folks that run the place! Check the date - all on the same day, right around the time these guys open. (Yes, I'm bored tonight, and yes I'm googling this stuff just to be irritating.) Anyway, it all makes so much more sense to me now. I can finally sleep.
Here's my original review from a few days ago, if anyone cares. Kudos to these guys for the enthusiastic self-promotion though! Wooo, way to take advantage of the objective forum of reviews that is Citysearch!

Yes the store is really pretty (see also: empty) and yes the computer thingies fun to gaze at if you're bored, but sorry, that doesn't make up for stupidly inflated prices on what is, at best, a very mediocre selection of wines. I'm just not sure who they're selling wine to - surely not the people looking for a $5 of wine to have with pizza, and certainly not anyone who actually knows their wines (their high-end selection is pretty laughable).
It's not a bad place - don't get me wrong - and the sales staff are indeed very friendly and helpful, but I just can't figure out why all these people are so obsessed with this store.
- Pros: Peaceful, zen-like shopping experience since you're likely the only one shopping there...
- Cons: Prices, selection, value
Great Experience

If you are uncomfortable, intimidated, or just plain irritated by pretentious wine snobs then this is the store for you. The store is staffed by knowledgeable, approachable, professionals that can help you find exactly what you are looking for. All of the wine in the store was hand selected for quality and price by the people working at the store. Most of the wine is under $20, although, if you are one of those people that like to spend a lot of money for a good bottle of wine, they have plenty to make you happy. Their infectious enthusiasm for wine really made the experience fun (ask for Scott Reiner). However, if you arent a big fan of speaking to people, you dont have to. The store has numerous touch screen kiosks that provide you with information on each wine by scanning the bar codes on the bottles.
- Pros: Service, Price, Fun
- Cons: None
