Editorial Review for Spa Chinois By Yan – by Katie Heffernan

In Short
This dreamy apartment of a spa treats clients to a simultaneously chic and calming setting. Work is done on the first floor behind Asian-style carved wood doors, while the upstairs mezzanine lends itself to quiet reflection with a comfy nail nook, yellow-green lounge and outdoor river rock patio. Spa services from facials to scrubs are offered a la carte, but the signature Journey is a unique mind-body experience combining Reiki, chakra crystals and personalized skin care.

I guess thats how I got tricked into thinking this would be a great spa...I went to this salon during Spa Week based on all of the positive ratings I read on citysearch. BUT let me tell you, it was HORRIBLE. I understand that not everyone speaks english well, but when my therapist came in, her Latin accent was so thick, I really could not understand one word she was saying. Hoping she spoke the international language of "melt away stress with awesome massage", I was completely disappointed bc she CLEARLY had NO experience in giving massages, as all she did for an hour was rub oil into my back in circles...what massage therapist does that? After about 10 minutes of major friction on my back from the circles, I asked her if she could give me a traditional swedish massage, and NOT rub oil in circles. This is where she decided to get "fancy" and practice massage techniques she probably saw someone do in a movie. It was beyond ridiculous...I could've rec'd a better massage from my 85 year old grandma for free. As I contemplated over and over in my head whether I should just STOP her and walk out, I really felt bad for her, and I didnt have the energy to then complain to mgmt and deal with nonsense over a $50 spa week appt. I left the spa feeling more stressed and upset that I just lost $50. Afterwards, I went to a different salon where I had a facial appt, and as I was getting my neck and shoulder massage, the aesthetician commented on how I had so many knots and needed to get a massage! If she only knew that just minutes earlier, I paid $50 for the worst massage of my life. I understand that everyone needs to make a living, but having non-experienced technicians is unexcusable. Lesson learned: DONT TRUST ALL CITYSEARCH FEEDBACK! Especially from one that seems too good to be true!

Pros: you get a bottle of water after the massage?

Cons: you pay over $100 for that bottle of water, since the massage will leave you disappointed and more stressed

For the first time, I actually enjoyed my facial. I was late for my appointment, and the facialist named Phoebe took me anyway and gave me the best facial! My skin is clearing up day by day...I am for sure going back and see her!!!

Pros: great service, EVEN the receptionist..they pulled strings for my service! don't understand what the others are talking about!

Cons: alittle bit cold.
