Editorial Review for Red Hook Bait & Tackle – by Erin Behan
The Scene
The quaint bar overflows with "found" objects: a mermaid, strings of dangling fish, two mounted harpoons from a Long Island basement and a stuffed bear from Indiana. Strings of glowing bobbers barely light the ample space. Old-timers who remember when that tree fell in the church garden now set their drinks on its planks that serve as the bar, where they're joined by the neighborhood's younger set. The two resident dogs, Dolce and Wispa, make sure even those from outside the 'hood get a proper welcome.
The Draw
A perfectly poured pint of Guinness, topped with a four-leaf clover, is one of the best reasons to venture to Red Hook for a beer. But add to that the addicting and rather realistic Get Bass fishing game and the friendly atmosphere, and you've got a new favorite bar. The unlimited supply of goldfish and Swedish fish don't hurt, either.

TERRIBLE place--will never, ever go back! The bartender was arrogant and unfriendly--he was only interested in hanging out with his friends in the back, and completely ignored everyone else at the bar. I stayed for 2 beers, and both times had to wait a good 15 minutes for him to come back in from smoking out front with his friends (and even then, he repeatedly ignored me and everyone else who wasn't in his clique). The bar is kind of cute, I guess, but it's dirty, and looks like it is trying AWFULLY hard to be kitschy and off-beat. (We get it, you're hipsters!) Do yourself a favor and go next door to the much cleaner and MUCH friendlier Brooklyn Ice House.
Pros: None that I can think of
Cons: unfriendly bartender, dirty bar, bad service

This is the quentisential corner bar...great music, owner operated, and friendly cool crowd. A great spot to go to after eating at one of the local red hook restuarants.
