“Place: good atmosphere: shadow cast tables, two bars, awkward winterized entrance, mid-block Flatiron location; no coat check.”
“As soon as we finished our delicious desert our check was placed on the table.”
“My friends (maybe 20 people) have come here after work for Sala's so-called "happy" hour several times, because of its central location, but now unanimously agree that Sala is the worst bar weve encountered in 5 years of hanging out in Manhattan.”
“Same goes for the bacon wrapped dates, and the soup of the day- an amazing white gazpacho with almonds.”
“The selections were great, there was plenty tapas/entrees to choose from, we had the Paella, which was really tasty, we also had the coquetas hamon it was just delightful.”
“Not the best tapas in town, but if you want a good yummy place for groups, definitely try Sala 19.”
“highly recommend this place and will certainly return myself.”
“Good bar, good venue, but sub-par table service”
“Summary: If you go, expect reliable slightly above average food for the price; and definitely eat at the bar or go when the staff is less taxed -- they seem not to be the cream of the crop here and need to be unlittered by needy customers to really provid”
“went one Saturday night with a group of 4 and without reservations, so there was a long wait, and the crowd at the bar was a little much, but no worries, you're right beside the Flatiron Lounge, one of the best cocktail places in the city.”

Great happy hour! Awesome sangria and tapas. If you find yourself in the Flatiron area, be sure to try Sala 19. The happy hour is great, all of the tapas we tried were yummy and the space is very cool!
Best bar in manhattan. Sala is really one of the best hide-away bars in the city. Located on a sleepy street in flatiron (sister location is down on bowery), this small and intimate bar features a terrific happy hour (2-for-1) and great spanish wines. I have yet to try a tapa I didn't love.
Best Tapas with Friends. Food was great! Fried Goat Cheese was A+ along with the garlic shrimp.Red Sangria was very delicious. Loved the ambiance of the restaurant. A lot of group dinners were happening mixed with a few couples. Downstairs bar area very nice, but not a lot of people for a Friday night. Service was okay, a little disappointed by the unfriendly wait staff, host was very nice (he might have been the manager though).
Perfect Experience.
This was one of those evening that I have wanted to write about everyday, but felt the need to make it so detailed and so descriptive that I have not gotten to it yet.
It was honestly one of the top 10 dining experiences I have had in NY. The food, the service, the wine. It was all perfect. I hope you enjoy as much as I did!
delish white sangria!. Felt the need to send another positive review since someone panned it so bad. Ate here last Thursday and thought it was fabulous! Had the white sangria- YUM! First sangria I have ever had in a restaurant that didn't taste like a pitcher of fruit juice. It actually tasted like SANGRIA! And maybe the previous reviewer had a bad batch, because the goat cheese apps were terrific when we had them! Same goes for the bacon wrapped dates, and the soup of the day- an amazing white gazpacho with almonds. They were super busy and needed to ask for our table after we finished dining, but the hostess felt so bad to move us that she bought us another pitcher! I highly recommend this place and will certainly return myself...
awesome sangria. A few girlfriends and I went to Sala One Nine last thursday night, unfortunately we didnt have a reservation and weren't able to get a table, but the host was really nice and made space for us at the bar so we could order food and hang out. It turned out GREAT! The bartender was from Spain so she guided us through the menu and wine list. She was very friendly, (a little slow, but i guess that's what happens when you are attentive to your customers?...) The sangria was really good too and for our group we got 2 pitchers for the price of one because we showed up before happy hour was over! Definately reccommend this place, but try to make a reservation if you are a larger group and want to sit. OR just show up and hang out at the bar!
God awful food and wine!. Expensive prices. Cheap cheesy, lazy food. Our $9 wine tasted like Carlo Rossi, the goat cheese app like the fryer it was made in, our mussels were raw and the molten chocolate cake was the worst I've had! Stay away!! Never felt the need to pan a restaurant before!
Spanish dishes in a Flatiron District bodega that caters to private parties..
In Short
The bright space is lit by colorful jeweled chandeliers and features rustic arches above prints of Pamplona. The Valencian chef is inspired by the foods of all 17 Spanish regions. Choices extend from paella and gambas al ajillo (shrimp in garlic oil), to tortillas Espanola and corbero a la segoviana (roasted lamb). The full menu is served at the granite bar, where Spanish sherries and wines, such as Oloroso and Rioja, are poured.
Sucky Service. Service was horrible! The menu selection and happy hour is no where near as good as Sala's on Bowery. i will not be going back to Sala on One Nine again. For a more low key experince with great Sangrias, tapas, and good service, check out Sala on Bowery. I only would recommend Sala One Nine if you prefer a crowded scene with rude service and sucky happy hour.
Great tapas; Good time with friends;.
My girlfriends and I came here on a Thursday night in May. We had early reservation for 5 people (at 5:30). They seated us right away and gave us yummy drinks. Both the margarita and sangria were great! To start, we all had the special arugula salad with aged goat cheese. It was delicious! Then, we each picked a racion and we shared them all. We had the garlic shrimp, the tortilla, fried goat cheese with honey and carmalized onions, and the tosta with baked brie. All of them were excellent! We especially LOVED the fried goat cheese and we ended up ordering another round of that along with the potatoes with spicy sauce. yum! for dessert, we had one apple tart and one chocolate souffle. both were awesome but the chocolate was to die for.
We got there so early that it was almost empty when we sat down. We were having such a good time that we didn't notice it got really crowded. No one rushed us through the whole meal and we took our time. After all the plate cleared, we got a few glares from the waitress because people were waiting, but it didn't change our minds. We all loved it there. Great music, low enough to have a conversation. Great vibe. Friendly waitress (she was so passionate about the food!). It was such a good time and I will definitely go back!
