What People Are Saying About Bar Americain

Featured Review

The Scene – The adobe-accented room reflects the chef's fondness for the Southwest, while soaring ceilings and an open kitchen pick up on Times Square's theatrics. Show-goers, tourists, local business people and celebrities keep the space constantly abuzz, while on-the-spot service lends intimacy to its vastness. – – The Food – Leave it to Bobby Flay to show that America's got flavor, with dishes like delicately fried squash blossoms stuffed with Southern-inspired pulled pork and a Florida-flavored red snapper encrusted in plantain and topped with a refreshing mango…

  8. The dessert menu helps round out a good meal and the sides were complimentary.
  9. the souffle and deep dish choc pie are amazing.
  10. with both fresh and dried apricots and cubes of some kind of plain cake all layered in a tall parfait glass.

  12. For years, Midtown has been a bit of a desert when it comes to great restaurants that aren't $500 a person.
  13. enjoy bitter coffee to balance the sweetness of desert but I couldn't wait any longer and had to have sweets sans java.
  14. The smoked chicked pot pie was delicious, as was the perfectly seasoned and prepared burger, and frites fans will not be disappointed.

Not worth the price

by thomast190

I will give it a few positives, the service in impecable. The horseradish sauce for the Ribeye was excellent. My wife had the asparagus which was also good. After that it goes downhill. The ribeye was tough and not very flavorful, mashed potatoes were bland. I would put my Butter-garlic Ribeye and my wifes garlic mashed potatoes against Bobby Flay's any day of the week. I would expect to be awed for $200.00 not just served a forgetable meal. Save your money for the food carts around town and you will be more satisifed. Unless your the type who eats someplace just because someone famous owns it. Good luck and good eats.

salt salt salt

The restaurant is clean and beautiful and the service was excellent.

Having said that, let me get to the real review. I ordered the hot brown and it was like an intense salt stick. The salt was so intense I couldn't even taste the other ingredients (the turkey) in the the dish. This was soaked in salt.

It was difficult to eat because it was so salty. With all the news regarding health and salt, I question why this restaurant would prepare and serve food that is so salty. It certainly does not make the food better. It's just wrong.

My companion also said his cobb salad was too salty. I will not return to this restaurant or recommend it.

Too Expensive

by mickey6115

Food Quality - Excellent

Service - Excellent

$39 Rib Eye Steak - very small, but good

But why do they charge me $9 for fancy french fries, and $9 for Asparagus with sauce and capers. They should be included as part of the entree.

I've had better $180 meals for two - with 2 craft beers and 2 red wines (smaller thasn normal portion). As anyone heard about the NYC economy!!!
