Questionable Restaurant Management. Although I have always been a fan of the Jean Georges restaurants, having visited Perry St. a couple of times previously, I was less than fond of my experience there this past week. While departing from the restaurant, I inadvertently left my iphone and blackberry on the chair and returned about 5 minutes later to retrieve them after realizing their absence. Upon my return, the devices were nowhere to be found and the maitre-d took about maybe 30 seconds to go to the back and check. Having decided to not give up just yet, I called the restaurant a couple more times throughout the night to try my luck. I finally got a call back and was told that absolutely everything was done to search for my phones (i.e. lockers were searched, staff was spoken to twice, cameras were checked) and that there was nothing else left to be done. Convinced that 5 minutes was too short of a time period for the devices to absolutely disappear out of thin air, my friends and I went back to the restaurant the following day and asked to see the surveillance videos. The general manager went away for about half an hour and came back telling us the the video was "grainy." We insisted to see it anyway and as reluctant as she was, she finally let us go downstairs. It turned out that all of the video cameras in the entire restaurant were functioning perfectly except for the one over our table; in fact, this one screen had "VIDEO LOSS" written across it. Having no other means of deciphering what had happened, we left with the understanding that I was going to file an official police report at the precinct, call the corporate offices of Jean Georges and make it known to other guests. Shortly after, one of my friends gets a call from my office security informing her that someone had dropped off my two phones and said that he found them outside of the office building. It still baffles me how the devices made their way from the West Village all the way to Midtown. While I am and continue to be impressed by the quality of the food at Perry St, I am highly disappointed by management's poor handling of the situation. The suspicious lack of transparency is something I would have expected elsewhere, not at a Jean Georges' restaurant.

Good, not great. Oeverall this was a disappointment, given the high ratings on Zagat and elsewhere. Ambience is quiet and restrained, nice, with views of the Hudson River. Service was competent and efficient, though it could have been warmer. However the food was merely good, rather than the ethereal Jean-Georges type experience we'd been led to expect by other reviewers. We had the calamari and one other appetizer that I cannot recall (?beet salad)--which should tell you something. Both were perfectly fine, tasty but not memorable. Ditto the entrees. My friend had the salmon and I had the fried chicken with morels and mashed potatoes. I didn't sample the salmon and my companion did not comment on it; my chicken was no better than ordinary, not even as tasty as KFC. A pleasant dinner but not a rave.

A lunch/brunch favorite. This is one of my top choices from bringing out-of-town guests for lunch or brunch--a beautiful space, fairly casual vibe, delicious food, all at a price that does not scare even my most budget-minded visitors. I've also spent one Thanksgiving dinner here, which was delicious and inventive. Plus it's a great location for a walk along the Hudson or around the quainter end of the West Village afterwards. Make sure to try the tomato soup!

Average and no more. I would never recommend this place to my friends - meanly due to the fact that they like to taste the food instead of being force-fed. If you are in a hurry THIS IS THE PLACE.

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent... but Pricey. Jean George's Perry Street was beyond delightful. Dining there with a small group on a weekday night, the dining room was dimly lit and well spaced. The restaurant is located on the first floor of Meir's glass building, where one can view the West Side Highway. The service was great - friendly hostess and attentive servers and well informed waiter with great honest recommendations (I switched one of my choices and the recommended dish was delicious). With five individuals tasting 5 different appetizers, entrees and desserts... there was not one wrong step - everything was excellent. Some of the highlights include the poached egg (to die for), rice encrusted tuna, red snapper, lobster, lamb (nice portion size - 3 pieces), fig tart (good size), and poached pear. The only issue some folks may have is that it is pricey. With two drinks, an appetizer, entree and dessert, it came out to ~$100 per person... but it was well worth it. Great for an intimate dinner.
