The Scene – Part market, part deli, part restaurant--Midtowners get to choose the make of their Mediterranean meal. With delicacies beckoning from front and center--a stacked cheese display, a meat and custom sandwich counter, shelves of European goods, and brimming coffee bean bins--the hungry may get sidetracked before reaching the rustic, casual cafe and wine bar in back. Its brick walls, iron accents and wooden tables make for a quaint lunchtime setting. – – The Food – One of the cheaper yet atmospheric sit-down spots around, this is a neighborhood find. Group and…
What a wonderful & lovely place

After a long & hard week in town, I took off for a couple days. I ended up wandering around until I saw this little door on 9th Ave,just after my walk in Central Park.
As soon as I came in,this nice young man welcomed me with a wonderful smile making me feel like home right away.He offered me to try one of their wines meanwhile waiting for a table. The wine list offered a large selection for any tastes.
After a few minutes he came back with a glass of wine, one of their Malbecs. It was delightful to sip while I was waiting to be seated, discovering all the tapas they had wondering already what I would have. All looked so delicious!
As soon as I got on my table everybody took care of me recommending me the best they thought I could enjoy with I wished to have that night.
From cheeses,to baba ganoush & wines to inspire my orders,I couldn't find a better place to enjoy my weekend in the city.
Wonderful customer service, wonderful people for a lovely time, unique food. What would anyone ask for more!!!
If anyone wants to enjoy a cozy & nice place to spend a great night, enjoying the wide & well chosen selection they have,I would recommend this place as one of the bests in the city. And I've been around for years.
It is my new, best stop off point for my trips to NYC!
- Pros: The Best fondues & athmosphere in town
Poor customer service

We made a reservation for 6 people at 8pm on Saturday but when we showed up, they told us that we didn't have a booking. That could happen to any place so we would have been happy if they tried to handle the situation in a way that was pleasant and could work or both parties. Instead, they simply showed us their reservation book where our name was missing and told us that we'd have to wait like everyone else. We were excited to try out the food but their customer service forced us out on the street hungry.
Great Wine selection Very Reasonably Priced

We're a family of 5 from Boston in town for a week. From all the restaurants we tried on this trip Kashkaval was by far our best choice. We loved the cosy and warm atmosphere (sort of European), the wines that the waitress suggested to us, the starters and salads but most of all the incredible choice of fondus. We never saw such a variety any where else.
We'll surely return to Kashkaval and will refer all our friends to it.
- Pros: amazing fondus, generous portions, interesting selection
- Cons: don't take reservations for less than 6 people
