“almost hesititate to write a review because the atmosphere was so great and I would hate for it too become to crowded.”
“the chocolate fondue w/ the fresh fruit and marshmallows.”
“The wine is always good, the tapas are always yummy, especially with the warm pita bread.”
“In addition to fondue, we also ordered a large platter of cold Mediterranean tapas.”
“Our wine was amazing as well, and not too highly priced for the imported variety.”
“The food was very good, a great deal, and the place its self was great.”
“My boyfriend told me he loves this place because the food is great and so is the wine, but this waitress is there everytime he is and she is the worst.”
“highly recommend Kashkaval for affordable Mediterranean fare in a charming venue.”
“Service was SO slow.”
SO GOOD!. Such a great surprise! People in my office kept raving about it so I finally went the other day for lunch with a friend. Wasn't too crowded, but we opted to sit at the bar anyway. We split the large tapas plate and it was SO GOOD! I was a little worried it wouldn't be enough food for the two of us, but our server assured us we'd be fine... which we certainly were. Am definitely planning a trip back here asap and highly recommend checking it out.
What a wonderful & lovely place.
After a long & hard week in town, I took off for a couple days. I ended up wandering around until I saw this little door on 9th Ave,just after my walk in Central Park.
As soon as I came in,this nice young man welcomed me with a wonderful smile making me feel like home right away.He offered me to try one of their wines meanwhile waiting for a table. The wine list offered a large selection for any tastes.
After a few minutes he came back with a glass of wine, one of their Malbecs. It was delightful to sip while I was waiting to be seated, discovering all the tapas they had wondering already what I would have. All looked so delicious!
As soon as I got on my table everybody took care of me recommending me the best they thought I could enjoy with I wished to have that night.
From cheeses,to baba ganoush & wines to inspire my orders,I couldn't find a better place to enjoy my weekend in the city.
Wonderful customer service, wonderful people for a lovely time, unique food. What would anyone ask for more!!!
If anyone wants to enjoy a cozy & nice place to spend a great night, enjoying the wide & well chosen selection they have,I would recommend this place as one of the bests in the city. And I've been around for years.
It is my new, best stop off point for my trips to NYC!
Poor customer service. We made a reservation for 6 people at 8pm on Saturday but when we showed up, they told us that we didn't have a booking. That could happen to any place so we would have been happy if they tried to handle the situation in a way that was pleasant and could work or both parties. Instead, they simply showed us their reservation book where our name was missing and told us that we'd have to wait like everyone else. We were excited to try out the food but their customer service forced us out on the street hungry.
Great Wine selection Very Reasonably Priced.
We're a family of 5 from Boston in town for a week. From all the restaurants we tried on this trip Kashkaval was by far our best choice. We loved the cosy and warm atmosphere (sort of European), the wines that the waitress suggested to us, the starters and salads but most of all the incredible choice of fondus. We never saw such a variety any where else.
We'll surely return to Kashkaval and will refer all our friends to it.
The Best Mediterranean Restaurant in NYC!!!!!!.
What a fantastic evening we had at Kashkaval last week. We were a party of 6 and every dish we ordered to the table was absolutely delicious!
2 of us ordered different fondus, one "kashkaval" and the other the "classic". Both were lovely and the portions are extremely generous.
It's unusual that all 6 of us enjoyed a specific restaurant without reservations.
Go and have a great night out.
Raw Chicken Served and no reaction from mgmt. Don't get their chicken kebabs, some pieces were undercooked and some were overcooked to the point of being dry. The management's reaction to the undercooked chicken was that "the piece is too thick" rather than we are sorry and let us take it off of your check. I would not recommend to go to this place because of a possibility of getting sick and poor service.
tasty turkey meatballs. no mustard in the mustard chicken. poor service. This was my second time here. Such a wonderful experience the first time. But tonight was quite the opposite. Started off with Sauvignon Blanc by the glass that tasted of a Chardonnay. Had to wave the server down to ask if it was SB. She stated it was a Chilean SB. Never offered to show us the bottle or explain/question further. We ordered the meatballs (very flavorful) and the mustard chicken. There was no flavor in the mustard chicken other than tasting like plain grilled chicken. Server never came by to ask how our meal was, so I had to flag her down to ask if there was supposed to be any sauce because we couldn't taste the mustard. We were told the dijon mustard was brushed on prior to grilling and she then walked away. Never saw the server again until we asked for the check. I know the server has no control over the quality of the food, but it was the way it was handled that ruined our experience at Kashkaval.
Great Food, Great Atmosphere. I'd read a lot of the other reviews on this site about Kashkaval, and I was going there fully expecting for a long wait, extremely rude staff, and not the greatest experience. Upon actually going, however, my boyfriend and I discovered that the staff was nice, accommodating, and did not make our experience a bad one. While the servers weren't overly talkative or friendly, they attended to our every need. We walked in and there was a wait for a table - so we sat at the wine bar and got a glass of wine. As soon as we saw people leaving from the back, we got one of the server's attention, and he happily seated us. Shortly thereafter, we received our tapas and cheddar ale fondue - both EXCELLENT. Our wine was amazing as well, and not too highly priced for the imported variety. I highly recommend the tzatziki with the tapas. All in all, it was an AMAZING meal, at not too high a price. I would recommend skipping the dessert fondue, though. It was pricey for what it was and wasn't nearly as impressive as everything else - it seemed like the kind of thing you could make at home with a bag of chocolate chips and some chopped up apple.
Yummy fondue and warm atmosphere. I've been to Kashkaval twice now, once this winter and once last- the food is still so good! This place is part restaurant, part wine bar and part store, which is nice since the tapas are delicious and you can also buy them up front before you get to the restaurant part. The wine is great, the cheese fondue is my favorite and the tapas are made up of a great Mediterranean selection. The only thing that was dissapointing this time around was the wait- we were seated right away but then had to wait to order, had to wait to order another glass of wine and then waited close to 15 minutes before someone walked by so we could order dessert- keeping in mind there's probably 7 tables in the whole back area. I wasn't in a ruch but there was absolultely no attention paid to us whatsoever....last year I remember the service being very good, so maybe it was just the night we went. I'd still recommend since the atmosphere is cozy and I love a good fondue place.
hidden gem. Great place for a date. There's also a larger table in the back that seats 6 comfortably. Been there several times and only had 1 bad experience where the service was poor and the fondue came cold. Highly recommend the kashkaval and cheddar ale fondue.
