“The music was great, the decor was urban contemporary and the aura made you feel as if you were at home in a livingroom with friends.”
“There are not a lot of places for african american hair in the city that are nice and do good work - Indra is the best place that I have been to.”
“My stylist was friendly enough, though she didn't speak english very well so we didn't talk much.”
Not worth the money.
this is my first time reviewing something here in NY. I visited the salon about a week ago and wasn't 'wowed' or dissappointed. I got a trim (she cut no more than one inch) wash, dry and the flat iron. The total came to $80, which seemed like a lot to me.
My stylist was friendly enough, though she didn't speak english very well so we didn't talk much.
The biggest plus is the location - its on 39th between 5th and 6th, so its close to my workplace.
I probably won't go back, iIm sure I can find better value for the money.
Rude, and Unorganized. I made an appoinment for a concsultation. the stylist whom I was supposed to meet was not there. Instead of rescheduling, they made me wait 30 minutes for another stylist, who refused to speak to me after I questioned the pirce. Beautiful salon, but they are dismissive and rude. Soend your $500 somewhere else.
Better than Some of the Competition. I've visited this salon a number of times. I returned because (1) I consistently left the salon with fabulous looking hair, (2) I rarely had to wait more than 15 or 20 minutes for service (a rarity at many salons), (3) my stylist LISTENED to me doing exactly what I asked even if she didn't agree with the technique and (4) I haven't been able to find a better salon (although I will keep looking until I do. I'm determined!) However, the prices are quite high and the salon seems to place hair health low on its list of priorities. They use TONS of heat on hair (which is why it was so important to me that my stylist listened to me, I'm very picky about how much heat can be applied to my hair). Also, they rake through fragile, coarse/curly hair while straightening it. Few clients have health natural or relaxed hair. However, alot of clients have gorgeous natural looking extensions.
Loved!!! I walked out looking hot!. I had an amazing experience at Indra. Let me be honest, my stylist was late. But she knew what she was doing! So much so, that i forgot that she was late. I had a relaxer and a haircut - she listened to what I asked for, took the time to base my whole scalp, a great wash, an amazing cut and perfect flat iron. I could not believe how great my hair looked. They really take there time there to make sure they are meeting/exceeding your needs. There are not a lot of places for african american hair in the city that are nice and do good work - Indra is the best place that I have been to. Worth the price, worth the wait.
Image is everything at Indra Salon...... unfortunately, the performance does not live up to the hype. While the salon does have many skilled stylists, the treatment of management leaves a lot to be desired. After booking an appointment, and being requested to leave a deposit for my reservation, I was bumped for another client and told to come back another day. Only after a making a fuss was my service performed, but not complete until 1AM. While the salon masks itself in professionalism, the true reality leaves customers wishing they'd went somewhere else. Do yourself a favor and do just that!
I NEVER write reviews but.... My Indra salon experience was absolutely amazing. After being referred by a colleague and doing research on CitySearch I decided to make appointments for my mom and I with Meiko of Indra. We arrived on time and were both worked on by Meiko with so much care, precision and professionalism it almost felt like a Spa retreatment. The music was great, the decor was urban contemporary and the aura made you feel as if you were at home in a livingroom with friends. I also got the best eyebrow waxing by Clark, who also works at Indra! They get an A-plus in my book! My mom and I will never settle with other salons. We've gotten more compliments in one week on our hair than we've ever gotten on any hairstyle! Cheers to Indra for making us feel like Divas in NYC!
