Whenever my husband and I come to the city, we absolutely HAVE to eat at LAND. We dont' care that it is cramped and it is hard to get a seat because the food and service are great. You're never waiting FOREVER for your food and the ambience at night is quite lovely. We always get the Thai ice teas or some cocktail for drinks. I love the whole red snapper entre which is fried and served with an assortment of vegetables and rice. The noodles with beef are also very yummy!! Also, try the sample platter for an appetizer - the curry chicken puffs are delicious. There is sooooo much to choose on this menu, it is sure not to disappoint!! True story -no BS - when I first went to LAND to eat, my husband and I were soooo impressed we went back the next night. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw another couple who were there the previous night also!! That alone should tell anyone that this place is definately a NYC keeper.

We were out of Zabar's coffee & their E.V. Olive Oil, our Colorado friends were visiting their kids in N.Y., & it provided the perfect excuse to drive up, meet them for lunch, & get some food shopping done. We left the choice of restaurant to them, knowing that even if they weren't New Yorkers they'd pick something pleasing. Our instincts paid off big-time. A very short walk from Zabar's, between 81st & 82nd Sts. on Amsterdam Ave. is a small, narrow Thai place called Land. There wasn't a thing on the menu that didn't sound terrific & the people on either side of us seemed to be enjoying their food immensely. Although Zagat says there can be a wait, we had no problem being seated....4 adults & our friends' 6 yr. old grandson (who's a born epicure). What we ordered doesn't make much differrence. There wasn't a thing on the table that didn't look beautiful & didn't taste wonderful. Spices were adjusted to the requested heat, service was friendly & prompt, & when we got the bill we couldn't believe our eyes. Our share, splitting everything down the middle so that we paid for 1/2 their grandson's meal, came to $33 including tea, tax & tip!! I didn't think anything like that was possible in Manhattan. No wonder the place was full. Land is highly recommended. Zagat: 22-17-18-$26 Authentic Thai lands on the Upper West Side at this ambitious newcomer where the food's amazing & so is the price...even if the space approximates a walk-in closet If you can't get a seat, take it home.

Land is a literally a skinny hallway. Although the restaurant is small and narrow, it was lively and vivacious when you got inside. The stylish dim lighting give it an alluring, seductive undertone. Definitely go for the Drunken Noodle With Chicken, which is only $9.
