“This is not a restaurant that I would frequent but I may return with a group for a pleasant evening out.”
“The wait staff was friendly but slow.”
“An excellent value for a neighborhood that tends to have overpriced or touristy restaurants.”
“The wait staff was friendly but slow.”
Never again!.
Portions were way too small for the price. Service was slow.
When I received my credit card bill, I noticed that the restaurant overcharged me. I called them to have the extra money refunded and instead they charged my card AGAIN. I called to have that fixed and was told to call back the next day.
That is not the way to do business! When I threatened to call the Better Business Bureau all of a sudden they could refund my money.
AVOID this place! There are so many better Italian restaurants in the area.
Best Pri-fixed lunch in the City!!!. This is truly the best prifixed lunch in all of New York! For $13.00 You get a three course meal with deliciously large portions and a vast menu to choose from. They also have a wonderful wine selection. Just don't come if you are looking for lunch in a hurry. The service was a bit on the slow side.
Consistently solid dining.
I have eaten here a number of times now. The decor is nice, clean, uncluttered. Service is good. And the pasta dishes are very good. We've had the taglierini with lamb ragu, the fetuccini with wild mushroom sauce and white truffle oil, and the fusilli with applewood smoked bacon and braised radicchio. All were excellent.
Their wines are also quite good, as was the arugula and goat cheese salad with mango.
This is now one of my standard go-to places for Italian food in the Midtown West area....
Always a wonderful time. My boyfriend and I go to Roberto Passon on a regular basis, and are never dissapointed! The food is always excellent, usually with a few specials that intrigue us. Yes, it is a small restaurant, and is usually packed to the gills, but that is a part of its charm. We enjoy the great food, italian wine list, and a waitstaff that will bring us something when we need it and leave us alone otherwise!
If I had to give it zero stars, if I could. This is not a quality restaurant, With so many restaurants in the city. The pumpkin ravoli tasted like it was from a can. The bread was not fresh and the hummus tasted sour. They come around with stale bread and provide everyone with hummus and a tomato spread. The appetizers were overpriced and not of good quality. The rabbit was about as rubbery as you can get. The water was warm, they don't even put ice in the water. The bartender can't make a drink- the mojito was absolutely nasty. The staff is rude. With so many restaurants in the city; this 'restaurant' seems to set itself as being one of the worst all-around.
Worst place ever. One of the worst places I have ever encountered. For one, the seating arrangement in the place is awful. They crowd in as many tables as they can, and the waiters/busboys constantly bump into you. The waitress never comes over to ask how your food is. You can wait forever for someone to take away your food. Someone ordered the rabbit--it was dried out. The liver for the appetizer was not too great. The arugula salad with mango was all arugla, and one piece of crusty goat cheese. The list can go on. The drinks have no alcohol in them. The waitress spills my drink on me, apologizes, doesn't offer me a new drink, gets all over my dress, doesn't offer to pay a dry cleaning bill, doesn't replace the drink, and the $10 drink was on the bill. Never again and I told all my friends not to go to this place. Beware! Oh, and the bread was stale.
Good Food, the rest was poor....
The hostesses didn't even seem to want to be there -- why have more than one person standing around?
The wait staff was friendly but slow.
The bread and appetizers were poor.
They charge for refills of iced tea -- which is basically criminal in New York. Even Ciprianis or Lugers give you refills on iced tea, amazing.
The bill was off, and not corrected. This place has some growing pains to figure out and it can be quite good I think -- it's just not right now.
Roberto is the best!. I'd like to agree with Serafino, Bravo! I am Italian but american born, and I can tell you that Roberto's food is very close to what you will eat in Italy. It's unfortunate that alot of people go to Italian restaurants looking for puddles of tomato sauce, and mountains of cheese - people please, this is NOT ITALIAN FOOD. Also, Roberto is one of the nicest guys you will meet, and his staff are very pleasant. It's a very busy and small place, and sometimes people get stressed out, but I've never, ever been treated poorly here. I also happen to know ,that there have been some former employees who have been writing horrible reviews to try and ruin his reputation, but whoever you are, dont' worry, you will never succeed!
Just plain awful.
Where do I begin, the hostess never smiled and there were two of them that looked upset that we came through the door even thou we had a reservation. The waiter came by twice with no water after I ask three different people for some. They served stale bread - you couldn't even break it open it was rockhard. Our entree came out so fast we didn't even sip our wine yet. And the entrees were horrible. Don't get me wrong I love garlic but when the chop up a whole clove of it and there is more butter and olive oil than pasta in my dish I have a major problem with that. They served a "half" lobster that was completely dry and tasteless. I couldn't even take one bite of it. My friend had the chicken wrapped with prosciutto and mozzerella it was so dry and salty. Nothing tasted fresh or new it covered up by garlic and salt......
I will never go back!
autentico, come in italia.
Well, i was born and raised in italy, in the north. Clearly who write about bad food is probably used to little italy "american italian food" type of places. I cannot find any other explanation, because the food here is as close as you can be of eating in italy. I come here whenever i can, i don't live nearby. I tried also they other places, and the food is good everywhere Roberto cooks. Seriously people, get a grip!! the service may not be a 4 star, but sure if you wait 10 minutes fo the table it means that the restaurant is popular and should be happy to wait. Or you can go just around the corner and eat at the italian place that it's always empty...
I go out to eat every night and trust me, passon is one of the top place in the city if you compare price/quality.
just wanted to poit out that. if you want good service go to il mulino where they charge you 250$ per person and you have to wait 30 minutes even with reservatio.
This is NYC and not Boise.....
