“slices of warm homemade banana bread with chocolate chips and nuts, topped with banana ice cream and carmelized bananas.”
“Overall a friendly charm and flavorful food and a full bar.”
“got the Chicken Guacamole sandwich with a fresh spring salad with balsamic dressing.”
“we do actually have another pancake that isn't on the menu- it has nutella and banana on top it's actually my favorite"- being a Nutella fan I decided on the Dutch Nutella and Banana, and my friend went with the Dutch Bacon.”
“Definitely a great place.”
“The four of us all enjoyed our meals which were excellent and the service was wonderful will definitely go back!”
“Our meals were really delicious (actually memorable), our server was terrific (very friendly, pleasant & attentive), and we sat at one of the outdoor tables (charming).”
“Staff is friendly, prices are very fair, and it's perfect for quiet, tete a tete with you and a special friend.”
New ownership is vast improvement. Thank God they got a new owner/chef. The old place was really horrible--lousy food, surly service. Not sure what was worse--the creature that crawled from the underside of the plate right into my food, or the nasty response of the manager/owner. The new people seem much friendlier, attentive, and are far better chefs. i'll reserve ultimate judgment till I go back a couple more times. But on the whole a vast improvement.
An all-American diner in the Village where traditional favorites crowd the menu..
In Short
The traditional diner look is updated with red suede banquet seating and granite tables by a petite countertop. The menu covers a breadth of comfort-food cravings including macaroni and cheese, hamburgers to taste and daily specials like free range chicken stuffed with goat cheese and wild mushrooms. The diner's specialty: thin Danish pancakes smothered in a choice of sweet or savory toppings, like Nutella with bananas or bacon.
Good eats at decent prices. These guys have great food and decent service. They serve breakfast most of the day, and their coffee is pretty tasty. They also have a lot of vegetarian options, which helps when you have a mixed bag of friends to satisfy. I've eaten a lot on their menu and have never been disappointed. They also have milkshakes, which satisfy late evening cravings. Sometimes it's hard to flag down the wait staff, but they try to be accommodating and are always pleasant. The one bad this is that they only take cash, but they have an ATM right in the place to help avoid surprises.
Never a poor choice. This place is great. Everything on the menu is well done. I particularly enjoy the french toast (best I've had), the Monte Cristo, the Tillapia, and the spinach ravioli. It's a nice everyday kind of place -- not too expensive but bring cash.
Best Dutch pancakes-banana-nutella EVER ! Go now take a breakfast. Sullivan Street made me love american breakfast. I moved in america three months ago and I discovered Sullivan D two weeks ago. I loved the breakfast, but I also loved the dinner!!! Try the house made burger. A grand pleasure... Especially with the home made french fries.
EXCEPTIONAL CUISINE- AND A GREAT PICKLE TOO!.
The new executive chef has rejuvenated Sullivan Diner. The food is wonderful- fresh, intricately prepared, and obscenely tasty.
DO TRY
-his hand-corned beef
-his homemade vinegar and dill pickles. the vinegar pickles are THE BEST I HAVE HAD IN NEW YORK CITY.
-the Monte Cristo Sandwich
-the Reuben Sandwich
-fried calamari is a must
-homemade fries and chips
-mac & cheese
Excellent food and fantastic service!. If your looking for casual yet uncomprised dining in the West Village, this is the place for you. While the decor is refreshing and sleek, the food is warm and comforting. I have been in for Brunch and Dinner, and all my friends agree....the food is amazing and the people are super-friendly.
AMAZING!!!!. It's all about the Banana Bread Sundae dessert. It's not really, everything I've ordered has been delicious but this dessert is incredible. I've been trying to remember a dessert I've enjoyed more and I can't. 3 slices of warm homemade banana bread with chocolate chips and nuts, topped with banana ice cream and carmelized bananas. I've gotten at least 5 people from my office to check this place out and they've all loved it. Delicious food, detailed presentation and unbelievably inexpensive. Can have a great dinner for two for under $50.
