“The atmosphere was great and the waiter ( I think his name was Tony )introduced us with his busboy and than with the manager.”
“The authentic cuban desserts reminicent of my childhood especially the vanialla custard.”
“Asside from the painfully loud live music which eliminates the possibility of being able to hold a conversation, this place can cook up some good drinks and some interesting ethnic food.”
“The food and service was excellent too, this is my new favorite place.”
“Exceptional menu with all distinctive Cuban favorites.”
“If you don't mind eating without talking this is a good place, especially when they have live music (and you may end up being seated right next to the band, as it happened to us!)”
“we will be back soon for more jokes and more happy times and good food.”
“What a mistake was to go there, the food was horrible, it had absolutely no flavor, it was impossible to get our waiter over and the music was too loud.”
“The prices are reasonable also.”
“It is great to go there after a long day, the bartenders are awesome i love their Mojitos.”
JUST GREAT. just go ahead and try it. At the start i was very sceptic because I booked a party for 20 people for the first time in a cuban restaurant. Came out to be great. The food delicious even that we had a price fix menu the selection was at is best , from family style apps - empanadas, croquets, and salad- to the main course - the skrirt steak, lechon, and the tilapia,-and to the the tray of tres leches for my parents bday. The service Top-Noch. For a party that large the server did an amazing job on ordering drinks and serving food. I am writing this review cause was my best experience ever. Don't hasitate to try cuban they have great food.My father and mother were so happy and I was too. Graet food cannot be enjoyed without great service. Thanks to Tony my party went great . Great place ans as I promised it was my first but it WILL NOT be my last
Samething to keep in mind. I went to Guantanamera with three of my girlfriends before theater. We got seated at a table and the waiter came and greated us right away. Ask for our drinks and brought them. All of us got what the waiter recoomended because was our first time in a cuban restaurant. The food was great and the service was at the same level too. We ask for dessert lists when we were eating our appetizers because we were thinking that we are going to be late for our show but the waiter assured us that we had enough time and he was right. The atmosphere was great and the waiter ( I think his name was Tony )introduced us with his busboy and than with the manager. The recoomendations were great my lechon suckling for real and the tres leche was superb. All of us were very happy. we will be back soon for more jokes and more happy times and good food.
Great experience, definite keeper. Found this place on opentable it's a midtown west keeper and find. Though we were not there during live music, which would've been nice, but the ambiance was felt with the overall design. Fantastic menu, very versatile tastes and authentic servings of both surf and turf. Have the Cuban tamales and have many, one of the best ever. The traditional Cuban dessert is also great, as is the banana bread pudding. Sangria is great, as are the cocktails (next time). Overall our party of 3 foodies was impressed and satisfied, the soul was felt on the plate.
This Cuban hot spot pumps up the volume with live music, killer mojitos, and complimentary hand-rolled cigars..
The Scene
A friendly cigar roller greets guests at a sidewalk table outside this rip-roaring restaurant. Inside, a tiny performance space features loud live music at 9pm nightly, and the nearby noisy bar stays packed with middle-aged businessmen and a younger Hell's Kitchen crowd. Vivid mural brightens the candlelit dining room, and tables are dressed in white linens and strewn with rose petals, but the mood is hardly romantic. The room's mojito-fueled diners have to shout to be heard over heaping plates of Cuban fare.
The Food
Addictive fried cassava sticks with cilantro dipping sauce and Serrano ham paired with Manchego cheese whet the appetite. Classic entrees, like garlicky ropa vieja, outshine more inventive creations, like the comparatively bland green plantain-crusted snapper, served over a delicious but too-thin layer of sweet mashed plantain. Firm and creamy caramel flan, rich tres leches cake, and refreshing pineapple sorbet make it imperative to save room for dessert.
Great, authentic Cuban food and atomsphere!. I picked this place on a whim from opentable dot com (great website), and I was very impressed! The restaurant has two floors, both small but cozy. Downstairs is mainly used for private parties, or if you request a more quiet table. The service was fast and friendly, though at times I did feel a little rushed. The only downside to the service was that some of the staff was not as knowledgeable about the menu as I had hoped. I had asked about something on the menu and the answer I was given did not help very much. As to the food, I eat Spanish/Caribbean food often, and this was excellent! The Ceviche Mixta was excellent, as was my entree (a chicken dish, but the name escapes me). The coffee was STRONG and the Mojitos are to die for! They have 6 or 7 different flavors and they are each made when you order, not from a mix. They have live music most nights and they have a guy in the front window who hand rolls cigars for customers! Great place, I would definitely go back!
Can't Beat the Band. After seeing Beyonce at the Garden we wanted a late night snack. We always planned on eating at Guantanamera and we were sorry that we weren't that hungry. The band was so good that we wondered why they didn't have a "real" gig. Hubby had the pinchos were were moist and I had the pina and agucate salad with grilled chicken. The salad wasn't wilted, the pineapple fresh (not canned) and the chicken warm. Based on our short visit we will definitely be back!
EXCELLENT !!!. I celebrated my birthday at this cuban place and my friends and me are going back. It was really a wonderful dining experience with excellent food, great mojitos (really nice and strong), live music, we danced and danced, great service, our waiter Herman was great. We all enjoyed that night at Guantanamera, so if you want to eat, drink and have fun you must go to this cuban gem, but book before friday for the weekend.
A PLACE YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS !!!.
I HAVE BEEN TO MANY CUBAN PLACES BEFORE AND NEVER HAVE I SEEN YET WHAT HAPPENS AT GUANTANAMERA... THE FOOD IS GREAT EVERYTHING ON THE MENU HAS AN AUTHENTIC FLAVOR, THE DRINKS ARE WONDERFUL, THE MUSIC IS PERFECT. THE NICEST THING ABOUT THIS PLACE IS EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!!... THE FOOD, THE FEELING OF HAVANA AND THE NICE STAFF. WE CELEBRATED MY FRIENDS GRADUATION DINNER PARTY AND STAFF INCLUDING THE OWNER MADE US FEEL SPECIAL AND GAVE US THE BEST TABLE AND WERE VERY ATTENTIVE TO OUR NEEDS. THE STAFF IS HAPPY AND SEEING THE OWNER GOING AROUND TO EACH TABLE TO INSURE THAT EVERYONE DINNING WAS HAVING A GOOD TIME IS SOMETHING YOU JUST DON'T SEE ANY MORE, AT LEAST NOT IN NEW YORK CITY.
SO IF YOU WANT A PLACE TO HAVE A PRIVATE PARTY THEY HAVE A DOWNSTAIRS AREA THAT IS PERFECT. I PLAN TO GO BACK AND IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A HOT SPOT WHERE YOU CAN HAVE GREAT CUBAN FOOD, MUSIC AND ENERGY... GUANTANAMERA IS THE PLACE TO GO... TAKE MY WORD FOR IT CHECK IT OUT!!!!
Great Vibe. I stopped by this spot on a Saturday night. The food was delicious, the drinks were STRONG, and it was a great vibe. The live band was wonderful, and I love the spontaneous dancing.
Never Again!. After having a fun birthday party here last year I decided to go for a repeat - what a difference a year makes! They gave me a hard time about seating me and my friends because the "whole party" wasn't there. I convinced them to let us sit down - the restaurant was not close to being full, so there was no point in that. And that birthday cake with sparklers and restaurant sing-along mentioned above? Didn't happen. Finally, they ruined this place for me FOREVER later on when the manager told us that they had already "allowed" us to stay past our 2 hour limit and it was time to go...although they had just brought several new drinks to our table, and one person was in the process of ordering more food. Our poor waitress and bartender were appalled and apologetic. But quite frankly I am completely soured on this place; it seems their success has gone to their heads and they consider this disgusting behavior an acceptable business practice. That's too bad, because I have sent many friends and coworkers there, but after hearing about my birthday debacle NONE of us will be back. Sure, the food and drinks are good - but they are not "la ultima coca-cola del desierto" and there are plenty of other great Cuban restaurants in this city that have excellent service as well.
