Disappointing Bar Experience. Just took a friend out for drinks to celebrate his birthday and wanted to stay local. Have been to Regional for dinner and though I didn't love the food their communal long table next to the bar seemed a nice place to people watch and have a drink. What a waste of money! We each ordered a glass of wine. $9 a glass. The glasses arrived half full. For the second round my friend mentioned he'd have another glass if they filled it up more than half way. They did - barely a tad. We noticed people next to us having a plate of hummus and bread. Couldn't find it on the menu and was told it was complimentary but only if you ordered food. We decided to order the $12 plate of 3 assorted "chef-selected" cheeses. What a joke. What arrived were about 10 tiny and thin triangular slivers of the most tasteless, ordinary cheeses you could ever imagine. One was salty provolone, the other two nondescript and totally tasteless. Laying across the cheese board was a long thin breadstick. So bland and boring that they knew enough to include a small dipping bowl of honey. The free hummus with semi-stale tuscan bread was the only thing the least bit tolerable. Three glasses of wine and the cheese board came to $49.27 with tip. Total rip off. They should be in the hall of shame.
We visited Regional tonight for the first time. and the last time. the food is so-so, the ambiance is ok, but the service is abhorrent.
We were sitting at the bar eating some apps when the bartender spilled a bucket of ice water on my wife.
1. the manager was too busy chatting with the regulars to take any time with us, even though he bustled around as
2. i cleaned up the bar and the floor. no one--wait staff, bardender, manager--made any effort to help, take over, or even stand and watch as i wiped up the entire mess.
3. the bartender barely said "i'm sorry". no one offered to buy my wife a drink, comp one of the apps, or even refill her water glass that had also been knocked over and spilled on her.
I've lived here for 20 years and have never felt so poorly treated. These people should be ashamed of themselves but they need not apologize to us. we'll never come back.
save yourself the trouble and go to a real Italian restaurant in the UWS, Acqua's. They know how to treat their customers.
I made a reservation for Sunday brunch at 3:30. I was running late and thought a friend had secured the table, but it ends up she couldn't find the restaurant. At 3:33, I received an email saying my reservation had been cancelled. When I walked in at 3:40, I was refused service because they said they had to prepare for dinner--even though there were other diners still present AND Open Table listed them as closing at 4PM .
An employee told me they closed at 3:30 (10 minutes before I arrived--even though I had a reservation!), that I should have called (couldn't she have, as well, to see if I was on my way?) and that I should come back another week. Rest assured that I will not. No one should ever be treated so rudely, especially in the customer service industry.
Never dine here.
great food, good service. I was here for Mother's Day so it was a bit crowded and service was spotty. However I've dined here 3 times before that and I love this place. I've had brunch and dinner here and the food is good and reasonably priced. Unlimited mimosas at brunch, and the servers are always alert for when you need more coffee. Great neighborhood place.
Great Brunch spot. Great brunch spot, super inexpensive, and unlimited mimosa's! What more could a girl want? A little noisy and too family firendly for someone with no kids, the restaurant was understaffed but the busboys were really attentive, I'll definitely be going back!
A Very Special Place. Regional is such a special place in this chaotic city. I find Regional to be my special "Retreat". Whether I want to be left alone and read a book at the bar or bring several friends for a fun meal I always feel at home. The food is wonderful. I have yet to order the same dish twice because I al always tempted by something else. Last night I tried the cheese platter, it was wonderful. The pasta specials are what I really love at Regional. Always different, yet always authentic. I hear they have a wonderful brunch on the weekends, that I will try next!
I LOVE REGIONAL. Regional is now my favorite restaurant. I have been living in the neighborhood for just a few months and I now consider myself a "regular" at Regional. The food is always fresh and the dishes are creative, not your usual Italian food served in every other restaurant in the City. I love the soups. The cod fish is my favorite. My daughter loves the Seafood Mista, my son loves the meat specials and my husband can't get enough of the duck ragu pasta. The people there are wonderful and really try hard to please. I LOVE REGIONAL!!!
Awful Food. The food is awful! I live in the neighborhood and since the atmosphere is quite nice and appealing, i really wished the food or service was good. I ate there when it first opened and swore I would never go back. Terrible service and the food was bad. But last night I tried again, thinking that maybe the chef or manager changed. Again it was a terrible meal. The atmosphere was nice and warm, that is the only positive. There is no hostess, so we waited for the bar tender to finish pouring drinks and to seat us. The waitor was unfriendly and didnt understand the menu enough to recommend anything. My wife ordered the beet salad, but they ran out of the cheese that was intended for it.. so they substituted. I ordered broccoli rabe soup (interesting, i thought) and the monk fish. I waited about 15 minutes for the soup and it came out cold. I sent it back and it came back when they served the fish and the salad. I asked them to hold off on the fish. They dont even know how to serve food. I tasted the soup. It was terrible, full of oil floating in it. I never tasted anything as weird, no flavor, just oily broth. My wifes salad was "crappy" as she said. The lettuce was wilted, looked like it was pre made in the kitchen hours ago and the substituted cheese looked old and didnt taste fresh. When the monk fish came back, it was cold as well, and tasted terrible. Seasoned too heavily, very rich and tasted just awful. A manager appeared. I told him that the food was terrible... and he brought us a free desert, which was a colorful gelatin creation. It was a nice gesture, but fittingly tasted awful as well. I will not return.
Cosi-Cosi Meal. We ordered in on a Saturday night, first time, and waited about an hour for delivery. The woman who took our order seemed unfamiliar with the names of the dishes on the menu in Italian, a language I speak & had to tell her the english version. The food was rather bland: my stuffed artichoke was dry and tasteless, apple salad was puny and husband's spaghetti alla chitarra was also low on flavor. Hubby's desert cake was blah and my zabaglione w/berries should have been called berries w/a little zabaglione topping. We were very disappointed but may give the restaurant one more chance though the prices were a bit high. Perhaps the chef on Saturday was not the "numero uno".
Great Atmosphere. The service was great and so was the food was very good (the pasta dishes we had were excellent - the bucatini and ravioli). The winelist is very reasonable. We also had the Frito Misto-(assorted fried seafood (calamari)) appetizer which was delicious. Went on a Friday night and were lucky enough to get a table for two with a minimal wait, but it was definitely crowded. The atmosphere was lively and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a solid meal with nice atmosphere
