Editorial Review for 'Wichcraft – by Katie Heffernan
The Scene
The gourmet sandwich shop fits right into its Tribeca surroundings with loft-like atmosphere--high ceilings, exposed vents and big bright windows. A green tiled wall and the orange-shirted servers vibrantly accent the sleek white and silver surfaces. Service is counter-only, so sandwiches are delivered on shiny metal baking trays to office lunchers and solo locals.
The Food
The hot and cold menu, which updates monthly, is both universally pleasing and gourmand-friendly. The roasted chicken's buttery grilled country bread drips with pesto-slathered mozzarella and roasted red peppers. Suited to a more discerning taste, the refreshingly chilled Sicilian tuna layers thinly sliced lemon, potent olives and fennel on a light baguette. Sweets such as brownies, cookies and muffins are delivered fresh daily, but the specialty ice cream'wich--a Klondike-like concoction with sugar-dusted graham squares and a thick ice cream middle--is worth the splurge.

The food is good, the coffee is decent (but not great), but the service is extremely spotty and can be very slow. Often the store seems understaffed. They will have one person taking orders, and this person also makes the coffee drinks and gets the food. So every order takes a long time, and if there is a line you have to wait upwards of 10 minutes to get a cup of coffee. I often see people leaving out of frustration after waiting in line and realizing how slow it is; I've done the same myself. The sanwiches are good but overpriced compared to similar quality in other places.

I just finished eating a sandwich that was delivered to my office from wichcraft. While the food was good, two sandwiches and a little thing of yogurt and granola cost $33! Even though my boss paid for it, I felt guilty for eating a meal which I could have gone downstairs to get for $20 less. My advice, go to a deli instead.
