What People Are Saying About Mug Lounge

In Short – This casual wine spot is bedecked in global accents, with colorfully cushioned banquettes, art posters of Chagall and Kandinsky, and tapestries draped from brick walls. The informal air of mismatched tables and chairs draws neighborhood locals, who drop in for Internet access or independent and international movie nights on the flat-screen TV. Paninis and sweet snacks share menu space with beer and wines from around the world.

Horrible Experience! Ruined my event...

by coffeebaby at Citysearch

I booked a private party in honor of an artist who passed away. I was promised the back room for 3 hours to show a video and have people speak. I spoke to the owner, Michael, on the phone and was assured everything was set and I could send out invites. Three days before the event I called just to check on things and was told the room had been booked by a wedding reception who paid for an open bar and that we could not have the private room. I was told I could go to another nearby lounge for the start of our party and then return to mug lounge at 10:30 after the wedding reception was over. Our entire party walked over promptly at 10:30 carrying trays of food and we were told that the other party had extended their hours and that we could not come inside. When I spoke to the owner I was told that "business is business" and unless we could pay for an open bar there was nothing he could do. The other party was also extremely rude and a fight almost broke out between my guests and theirs because they were telling people rudely to get out of the club when they were just arriving for the party and had no idea it had been double booked. The owner was totally rude and unapologetic to me about ruining my event. I read somebody else's review here about the owner doing the same thing on another occasion and should have listened. In the future I will pay more attention to reviews! Do not ever book a party at Mug Lounge. Total disappointment

Best lounge ever

by myaB at Citysearch

I have become the biggest fan of Mug and one of its most frequent visitors! I had gone to a friend's birthday party here in March and was so shocked I'd never been before! The place is super fun with a great bar area, super friendly bartenders and then a separate room for dancing/lounging. Not only does it not get crowded, but it's also a large enough space that it could handle the crowds. This is the ultimate party spot and I almost think I shouldn't post this review so it stays my secret little gem. I recommend this place to anyone looking to kick back a few drinks, enjoy some reggae, hip-hop, top 40's tunes, and dance their booties off. No matter what you're in the mood for, Mug caters to all.

  • Pros: Reasonable drinks, Great Music, No cover

Mug Lounge is the best! I found it a couple of months ago walking down the street. It is fairly close to my apartment so I come here all the time now! It is a great place. I love the mis-matched sixties style furniture. They have great wines and top shelf liquors. The staff is friendly and they remember me every time I come back! It is the perfect place to sit back, relax and have some drinks!!!!

  • Pros: Great atmosphere and drinks!!!

Best Lounge around

by ptomanel at Citysearch

I love driving into the city from Long Island, and I always know that there will be great people and conversations at Mugs. My friends and I can always find a great hot spot but end our Saturday nights at Mugs. If we are around during the week or early on the weekend we end up at Mugs. The music is always good, and the owner and his wife always treat us well. Stop off and enjoy a comfortable hanging spot!

  • Pros: Always find a spot to park, love the ambience, enjoy the people, this could be a romantic place, this could be a cool hangout

Great place to drink and relax with friends

by ironychef at Citysearch

You might not notice it at first as you walk along 13th St at Avenue A, but go inside Mug and you'll find a great place to relax and drink with friends. A few buddies and I stopped in last Wednesday night. We were able to find a comfortable corner for everyone to relax in. The $4 Red Stripes where just what we needed after work. The Reggae music was chill and just loud enough that we could enjoy the beat but still talk over it. After a few rounds we got hungry. They were serving amazingly good Jamaican jerked chicken for Happy Hour so we didn't have to buy any dinner. We used our cash to buy a few more rounds instead. After a while, some ladies showed up and we ended up having a little party in the lounge! It was the perfect night in the East Village. We'll be back for Reggae night.

  • Pros: Plenty of places to find a seat
  • Cons: Didn't look like a bar from the outside
