In Short – Don't be fooled by the bare-bones decor of this mom-and-pop spot. Though it feels like a sparsely decorated living room, the cafe is famous for its authentic Tibetan cuisine. The renowned fresh momos, Himalayan dumplings that taste like a mix between Indian samosas and Chinese dim sum, come stuffed with vegetables, chicken or beef. Vegetarians have plenty of options, and the salads, noodle bowls, curries and stir-fry dishes are as cheap as they are popular.

Editor's Tips

Save Money:
Cafe Himalaya offers one of the most inexpensive dinners in town, but the can't-miss $5 lunch special is even cheaper.
The Extras:
On your way out, pick up some healing incense imported from Tibet.

  1. didn't like the veggie momos - too dry and not enough spices, but the potato momos are the best.

Tibetan short stop

by gaiamcraft

I haven't been here in a while but have been meaning to stop by. Last time I was here the place looked aweful, dirty walls with peeling paint. It makes you want to run out instead of sitting in. The space is small yes, but the architecture is way wrong. To use the restroom, you have to go behind the counter into the open kitchen. Awkward.

Now the food: Really, the momos are the selling point. I didn't like the veggie momos - too dry and not enough spices, but the potato momos are the best. Very filling, hot, and moist with yellow salty sweet mashed potatoes in steamed dough. Just writing this gives me a craving. The noodle soups are nothing special and largely forgettable.

I do hope that they have improved or will improve the decor and overall cleanliness.

  • Pros: potato momos, price
  • Cons: atmosphere
