The Scene – This country French bistro, named after the plucky urchin from "Les Miserables," evokes the theater district's restaurant row in much of its decor--a prominent "welcome" blackboard, an Eiffel Tower photo, and watering cans used as water pitchers. The eatery's warm golden tones, exposed brick, and lush back garden twinkling with tiny white lights signify a more Left Bank vibe. – – The Food – Broken into two sections, Tradition and A Ma Facon ("my way"), the well-executed menu satisfies without breaking new ground. I love IT

by rrebeccaa

Gavroche is one of my favorite restaurants in New York. I love it. I've always enjoyed everything I've had. The wine list is great. I enjoy both the bar (for drinks and food) and the more formal dining room experience.

I have several friends who like to knock it. They don't seem to like any place that is too critically acclaimed, thinking that they are being part of a heard or some such. If you know those same people, don't listen. You won't regret it.

The Place For YOu...

by eemeliaa

If you're looking for a romantic spot with a great wine list and excellent food... this is the place for you!

I was there last week and loved everything about it. The wine list is extensive, it was hard to decide (but we did, of course!) Our server was extremely friendly and helpful, but not overbearing. We started with the Pommes Frites and loved it. For my entree, I had the Deux Facon. It was excellent - perfectly cooked, seasoned and presented. My friend had the lamb shank (a special for the night) and it was amazing! For dessert we share the Creme Caramel. It was very good, but rich so I'm glad that we shared it. I would highly recommend.

Overall, I would go back to The Gavroche in a heartbeat! I would highly recommend it for a romantic evening out or a special occassion.

When to Go:

Fill your belly with tasty brunch items every Sunday. Only cash is accepted for the $18 fee.

The prices on the wine list aren't exactly egalitarian, but there a few half-bottles available. In full bottles, the 2002 Macon Villages Domaine de Champ Brule ($24) is a good choice.

Where to Sit:

There's no smoking in the garden, so nic-fitters will have to step out front.
