“It is the best relaxation massage I have ever had and the staff is not anything less than awesome!”
“Felt like 15 mins of actual massage and then just stretching, which I could've done way better on my own.”
5 Star Gym in Union Square.. Beautiful gym, never too crowded. Extremely clean, and very service oriented. This is the only gym I would go to in NYC. Ive been a member of NYSC and Equinox. Clay is far superior.
Doesn't Even Deserve 1 Star. This place is sad. It pretends to be high end but misses the mark. Its dirty and all the people working there are unprofessional. Lazy front desk employees are too busy playing on texting to pay attention to customers. I was double charged one month and couldn't even get a return phone call about getting the issue resolved. So I had to go into their "business office" in person to get an answer, where the staff was having a loud conversation and the bitchy horse-faced old lady and hairy old man were talking about sterods they been doing. THIS IS PROFESSIONAL? Not to mention the place is not kept well, the classes are boring, the trainers just go through the motions, and there is nothing enjoyable about this place. Go to Boom Fitness, Club H, David Barton, Crunch, or Hype instead.
Awesome facial/skincare!! My new place.. AWESOME FACIAL!!!! The whole package!!!
Great Facial and Brows.
I came here for the first time last week, and I have to say, this place is a hidden treasure!
You definitely have to keep your eyes peeled to find their door (just a little orange sign until you're right on top of the entrance), but once you're in, this gym/spa is like stepping into another world.
I had a facial and a peel with Maya, and I have to say it was the best I've had in years in the city. I don't get facials too often and when I do, it's really about great extractions. She had a perfect touch and was so thorough. She also offered great tips after and somehow still made the facial incredibly relaxing.
I caught a special that day for 1/2 price brow shaping and since she had been great, I went for it. Also perfect, and very thorough.
Definitely worth every penny, and I'll be back here regularly.
Great place. I was a bit skeptical about this place when I saw the membership price, but after a tour and a trial month there, I'm hooked! Clay makes working out every day plausible. The cafe offers tons of delicious choices (the Greek wrap is my personal favorite) and the menu is color coded to make choosing your meal easier.
Do not get a facial. I bought a gift certificate for a facial as an x-mas gift for a close family member and it was the worse decision I made. They have a very nice website but please don't get fooled. The person I bought the facial for was completely unsatisfied with the facial. The woman who was doing the facial would not stop talking throughout the entire session. She was not focused on her job and instead more interested in socializing. The extraction was terrible because she only brushed upon a few spots very quickly and the person seemed inexperienced. The facial was so bad that she broke up in zits the following day.....never again will I step foot in here.
Editorial Review by Lynn Suhrie. An innovative Union Square area fitness center offers typical spa treatments in addition to physical training and nutritional guidance.
ok. went to Clay last wk to ck it out and I was not impressed as I thought I would be. I looked on their website beforehand and was really excited but when I got there, I realized that someone just took really good photos for the site. +'s: cafe - really good healthy food & smoothies - BEST. # combination lockers - no need to bring a lock. personal saunas. sun deck. classes - I only took the power sculpt & yoga which were pretty cool. all machines have working TVs on them. didn't get too crowded. people were friendly. cold eucalyptus scented towels. body wash has a nice grapefruit smell. -'s: the ceilings were way to low so it got pretty hot in there. locker rm is small & little funky smelling - this drove me crazy. the lockers could be a bit bigger. don't get me wrong, this is a very nice gym, but comparing it to Club H Fitness that I cked out the wk before, I don't think it is as nice and not worth the price.
Oh, yeah! Great Spa. I used to come here yeasr ago and I have rediscovered it and I am happy. It is the best relaxation massage I have ever had and the staff is not anything less than awesome! I will never forget Clay Spa again. Go, I promise you'll be happy!
Clay is my Temple.
This "gym" (and I use that word hesitantly) is truly my sanctuary. The staff is super-friendly and accommodating and the members are unpretentious.
I've been a member at Crunch and Equinox and if you just want to lift weights or show off those are the places for you. However, if you want a relaxed atmosphere where you can enter into your own "zone" then Clay is it.
I'm a martial artist and Clays is essentially my own private kung fu studio. Many of the staff are martial artists so they are definitely in tune with my needs. Plus, I've found some great sparring partners! Moreover, the equipment, namely the FreeMotion devices, are centered around core-strength. Working stabilizer muscles will ensure that you prevent injury.
If you simply want to grunt, lift-heavy, and bulk-up this is not quite the place for you. However, if you want a total wellness, functional strength workout that will give you a slamming body then join Clay.
Also, the cafe is super-delicious and very healthy. Even if you don't sign up, you should definitely stop by and have a meal - everything from breakfast to dinner to snacks and smoothies.
Oh, and the showers have shaving mirrors in them. I ALWAYS shave in the shower so it was good to see I could do the same at Clay.
One last thing, it's not a "trainer heavy" facility. Some comments have said that most members work out with trainers, but I have not seen that. I guess it depends on what time you go. However, all gyms have trainers and I've seen plenty at Crunch and Equinox. I think that's unavoidable no matter where you go.
Highly, highly recommended.
