Good pizza, bad service – Last night a friend and I went to Numero 28 in the Village. It was our first time there. We didn't know anything about it, but it was full and had a good atmosphere. We were seated right away but I could tell the waitresses were not the friendliest people. We ordered and had to wait a bit for the pizza to arrive. We ordered a Rustico pizza. When it finally arrived the entire bottom of the pizza was BURNED! It was BLACK. It also smelled burned and absolutely unappetizing. I brought it to the attention of the waitress who then proceeded to try and convince me that THAT's how Neopolitan pizza is supposed to be. WHAT???!! I couldn't believe it. I told her that it was inedible and she finally decided to take it away and have a new one made. That one took less than 10 minutes when we waited 45 minutes for the first one. The second one was great. But I had a bad taste in my mouth with the attitude and the desire to convince a new customer that there was no mistake. Be careful and stand your ground.

Heaven in NYC – Amazing little slice of Italy in NY and not in Little Italy. The West Village location has the best pizza anywhere, and that's including Napoli! Forget about the others, even if you've heard that Joe's or some of the other brick oven places are the best. This little place has the yummiest, mouth watering pizza with crunchy, yet moist and chewy thin crust. The sauces are so simple and so flavorful. The pizza bianco, Tartufo is my favorite and I'm dying for another right now, but the trip from Cali makes for a very expensive pizza! We make it a for sure stop each trip to NY. Mille grazie a Eugenia for her beautiful smile and wonderful food. Tutti bene!!!!

Ordered a pizza an hour before close yesterday, phone twice to ask where it was, was told it was 20 minutes away, then told almost there...it never came, when I called back a third time to enquire, there was no answer...would love to have rated the food for this delivery but cannot do so. Terrible service.

Excellent Pizza – The margrhita reginella di bufala is outstanding! It is an authentic italian pizza cooked to perfection (most of the time). I don't put topings on so I cannot comment). Bottom line, its a great pizza which is endorsed by the fact that its full of Italians eating there. However, it is expensive for what you get (pizza size is ok but is $16-18 per person and a soda goes for $3). The seating is atrocious and is VERY hard to get in and out of seat and you are stuffed in next to other people (in fact the people next to us just up and left as it was to tight).

So great pizza but not a great experience. Worth it once or twice.

Excellent even by Italian standards – I am Italian and I have been in North America for 12 years. All Along I have been desperately trying to find REAL pizza, simple, tasty, with REAL mozzarella, cooked in a wood burning oven. By now I had given up, resigned to the idea that I could have real pizza only on my trips back to Italy. Well, last Sunday I have finally found it in North America too! In New York city.

Me and my husband were strolling in the West Village when I saw the wood burning oven and the pizza on the tables. It looked so real that I made my husband hang around for another few hours, until supper time. Then we went back to No. 28 and had our pizza. Finally! It was real, real real. It would make the cut even in Italy and believe me this is the first time I make such a claim in the 12 years I have been missing my beloved pizza.

Thank you No. 28, I will spread the rumor among my Italian friends!

Superb, authentic Italian pizza – This small restaurant hits it out of the ballpark everytime. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. It's the closest I've felt to Italia since I've been here. The real deal. Bravi tutti.

amazing.. – The food here is amazing and extremely well-priced, and they have quite an extensive wine selection and the staff knows their stuff when it comes to the food and wine!

GREAT PIZZA! – As of today, the best pizza we found in town. It’s possible to have the traditionally shaped pizza as well as a pizza long 18” or 29” inches. Right in the center of the old Little Italy, the one that tourists don’t experience.

$27 for subpar pizza – I cannot believe this place won Best of New York. The pizza was, at best, okay. First of all an 18-inch thin crust pie cost $27, which is unbelievably overpriced, especially considering the pizza was average. While the toppings were good, this was the thinnest crust pizza I have ever had. Basically a slice of pizza is like a cracker with a thin layer or sauce and cheese. Additionally, the pizza was overly salty and the cheese was pretty much non-existent.

I would NOT recommend this place at all. There are so many better choices in NY. I really can't believe this place won.

BEST IN NYC BY FAR!!! – Have not tried any places in BK or Staten but have tried the other great places on most top 10 lists in the city. No 28 is by far the best. Perfect combination of fresh sauce, not too much great tasting mozarella cheese and a perfectly prepared slightly charred thin crust! Service was good even though the place was packed to the gills. Only shortcoming of the place to me is that they don't serve draft beer. Thin crust pizza perfection!
