Owner
Ben and Jack, long-time waiters of Peter Luger's Steakhouse, have opened a beautiful restaurant in the heart of Manhattan. We offer prime, dry aged porterhouse steaks and a dazzling assortment of steakhouse favorites. We are proud to announce that Teddy, long-time bartender at Peter Luger's in Brooklyn, most recently a host at Wolfgang's Steakhouse, is now welcoming friends and customers at Ben and Jack's. Our Chef, also, comes from Peter Luger's. Frosted, etched glass rooms are available for private parties. All major credit cards are accepted. Visit our website and take a tour!!!

The Scene
The namesakes, two ex-waiters from Peter Luger, have decorated their restaurant for the elderly set: The floral upholstery, gilded artworks, etched glass and frou-frou wallpaper come together for a vaguely Southern, somewhat Vegas, anywhere-but-midtown feel. But the crowd--honeymooners, silver-anniversary couples, bachelor groups and gaggles of middle-aged women--is pure New York.
The Food
The kitchen knows the culinary secrets of its former employer so well that a blind taste test could convince diners they were at the Brooklyn original. And despite a more expansive menu, featuring a few simply prepared seafood options like lump crab cocktail, grilled tuna or steamed lobster, everyone orders the spectacular prime, dry-aged porterhouse for its trademark tenderness and divine buttery flavor. The kitchen also clones the lightly creamed spinach and facsimiles the fudgy ice cream sundae and its scrumptious whipped cream schlag. Until there's an official Luger outpost in Manhattan, this is a close approximation of a taste twin.

this restaurant is waay over rated. the tables are crammed together so you feel as if your having a community meal. we had two filets. one we had to send back because we ordered it med rare and it was brought to use med to med well. the steaks were tender but tasted dry if that makes any sense... it was definietly not impressive or mouth watering. the service was really slooooow. finally the oddest part about the meal is that i called ahead and told them it was my bf birthday thinking they would bring out a small cake or sing or something...anyways after getting there i reminded the waiter about the birthday.. finally after not getting the typical birthday response (cake) we decided to order carrot cake. the waiter brought the carrot cake out with a candle in it and charged us for it. :).... i would with out a doubt choose ruth chris or some other well known steakhouse over ben and jacks if you want to guarantee your going to have a steak that is worth remembering.

This is a great NYC Steakhouse. Went for a work dinner and we had a blast. Steaks were perfect, seafood was divine. Get the bacon as a app...sooo good. Wine list was perfect for steak. Jack even came by the table to say hi and he gave us a round of afterdinner drinks on the house. I wish they had baked or mashed potato but it didnt make a difference. I would say this is on par with the top steakhouses in the city.

Me and my boyfriend went to Ben & Jack's this past Friday. This was our first time going to the establishment. We were excited since we read such great reviews for this place. We were seated very quickly. We got the menus, but the menus did not explain none of the dishes ( this will come in handy later in my review). The waiter came, greeted us and asked for our drinks. I found this kind of funny because every other restaurant I have been to, the waiter asks if we have been to their establishment before and they would explain the menu. So we ordered the "Ben and Jack's salad for 2". So we were waiting for this "salad" then it came and the waiter had a dish with tomatoes, shrimp, ham and a bowl of onions. I asked what is this? and the waiter said "the Ben and Jack's salad". My boyfriend and I looked at eachother like oh boy because I did not like half of the components in this "salad". We did not know that this "salad" was prepared like this. I believe if we had this information in the menu or the waiter would have told us, then we wouldn't have ordered it. The restaurant as you can tell is all about their steaks, even down to the food. The steak was the best part and what most stood out in our meal. It was very tender and juicy. It was perfectly cut in nice slices. We ordered the 1/2 cottage fries and 1/2 onion rings for our side dish. The cottage fries were like large potato chips. The cottage fries were not seasoned at all, they were kind of bland. The "onion rings" weren't onion rings at all, they were fried crispy onion strings. They were ok, but the onions strings were just like the fried crispy onions you get in Dallas BBQ on the side of their steaks. For dessert we ordered a cheesecake, it was great and the whip cream was very good. The service was good but I just wish our main waiter would have explained some of the dishes on the menu instead of waiting for us to ask. Next time I will ask more questions before I order.
