Ben and Jacks I am 2 weeks late on the anniversary dinner, I could have gone to three other high end steak restaurants in Scottsdale, I am under pressure from Wifet. Let chop chop, get the place open
Great Place to Eat in the City!.
We ate at Ben and Jack's last night for the first time. From the moment we walked in the staff was attentive, warm, and friendly. We were seated immediately in a cozy alcove which made our experience even nicer. Our waiter was knowledgeable, and very helpful with our selections from the wine to the entree. The steak was cooked to perfection, and served expertly. I highly recommend the fries, and the mushrooms, both were a taste sensation. We also had the Ben and Jack's seafood dish which can be made with either a red sauce, or white sauce. We chose the red and were so glad we did. It was a masterpiece of tastes. Dessert was the perfect ending with cheeses cakes, carrot cake, key lime pie, and the most wonderful whipped cream we had ever eaten.
If you are looking for a wonderful dining experience, this is the place to go. Oh don't forget to try the warm home-made potato chips while enjoying your cocktail, you'll want to eat the whole basket!!!
The BEST Steak House!!. Just consistently great steaks, seafood, fish and sides. BY FAR the best steak house in the city and has such a great atmosphere/friendly staff too. I've been at the 44th Street and 5th Avenue locations several times this past month, and I can never get enough. Looking forward to my next Porterhouse there!
OK at Best - Not the Greatest Steakhouse.
We decided to give Ben and Jacks a try. I've definitely been to better steakhouses. The waiter was nice, but forgot to give me my mash potatoes to go, which was disappointing. The steak was decent, but I prefer Ruth Chris. The ambiance was tacky, in fact there was a big hole in the bathroom stall.
Frankly, I expect more, and have gotten much better for a meal that costs $200.
waay overrated. this restaurant is waay over rated. the tables are crammed together so you feel as if your having a community meal. we had two filets. one we had to send back because we ordered it med rare and it was brought to use med to med well. the steaks were tender but tasted dry if that makes any sense... it was definietly not impressive or mouth watering. the service was really slooooow. finally the oddest part about the meal is that i called ahead and told them it was my bf birthday thinking they would bring out a small cake or sing or something...anyways after getting there i reminded the waiter about the birthday.. finally after not getting the typical birthday response (cake) we decided to order carrot cake. the waiter brought the carrot cake out with a candle in it and charged us for it. :).... i would with out a doubt choose ruth chris or some other well known steakhouse over ben and jacks if you want to guarantee your going to have a steak that is worth remembering.
If you love steak..... This is a great NYC Steakhouse. Went for a work dinner and we had a blast. Steaks were perfect, seafood was divine. Get the bacon as a app...sooo good. Wine list was perfect for steak. Jack even came by the table to say hi and he gave us a round of afterdinner drinks on the house. I wish they had baked or mashed potato but it didnt make a difference. I would say this is on par with the top steakhouses in the city.
It's good but.... Me and my boyfriend went to Ben & Jack's this past Friday. This was our first time going to the establishment. We were excited since we read such great reviews for this place. We were seated very quickly. We got the menus, but the menus did not explain none of the dishes ( this will come in handy later in my review). The waiter came, greeted us and asked for our drinks. I found this kind of funny because every other restaurant I have been to, the waiter asks if we have been to their establishment before and they would explain the menu. So we ordered the "Ben and Jack's salad for 2". So we were waiting for this "salad" then it came and the waiter had a dish with tomatoes, shrimp, ham and a bowl of onions. I asked what is this? and the waiter said "the Ben and Jack's salad". My boyfriend and I looked at eachother like oh boy because I did not like half of the components in this "salad". We did not know that this "salad" was prepared like this. I believe if we had this information in the menu or the waiter would have told us, then we wouldn't have ordered it. The restaurant as you can tell is all about their steaks, even down to the food. The steak was the best part and what most stood out in our meal. It was very tender and juicy. It was perfectly cut in nice slices. We ordered the 1/2 cottage fries and 1/2 onion rings for our side dish. The cottage fries were like large potato chips. The cottage fries were not seasoned at all, they were kind of bland. The "onion rings" weren't onion rings at all, they were fried crispy onion strings. They were ok, but the onions strings were just like the fried crispy onions you get in Dallas BBQ on the side of their steaks. For dessert we ordered a cheesecake, it was great and the whip cream was very good. The service was good but I just wish our main waiter would have explained some of the dishes on the menu instead of waiting for us to ask. Next time I will ask more questions before I order.
Best Steakhouse in the city. we have been to peter luger many many times and love it.. but we live in manhattan and PL is a hassle to get a reservation and to get to.. Ben and Jacks' steaks are just as good,if not better than peter luger.. crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside.. the steaks are to die for.. no ambiance.. nothing special about the neighborhood, just a GREAT steak meal.. easy to get a reservation.
Abrupt, Rushed Service, Medicore selcection of Cuts, Stuck in the 80's with your grandparents feeling.
What's the big deal about guys that worked at LUGER's??? It's good but not good enough to justify putting up with crappy service. Whop designs a menu that serves just steak for 1, 2, 3 and 4??? no creativity to the menu. the Tomato and Onion SUCKED. I expect the BEST from the market for $17 for 2, not something i could've bought at the supermarket down the block. NO originality, lack of commitment to making something memorable that i can feel from the entire staff.
the creamed spinach was good but there was no mashed. NP but the alternative was the hash brown which looks very familiar to the stuff they give me at the diner for breakfast with an exorbitant price tag. it just doesn't seem like something you should serve at a good dinner.
The quality of the meat was good, texture was tender but we had order 3 different steaks of different size and temperature and the result all looked the same. Everything came out close to medium so if you like medium, you were doing okay but the the MR folks were not pleased.
the place needs correction on every level.
The decor looks tired and dreary overall.
We went on a slow weekend night with only a third of the table full but everything just seemed off and the staff seemed like they were in a hurry to finish their mediocre jobs so they can go home earlier.
Although i love steaks, steakhouses leave a lot to be desired in terms of service but this is one place you should avoid if you are an aficionado.
They treat customers like idiots and serve them on their own terms and speed. Take your appetite and your business elsewhere. NYC can do far better.
Great Steak. I came here last friday with a group of clients from out of town. This is one of my Favorite steakhouses in the city. They have a great bar when you walk in where we were able to have some drinks and watch the end of the yankee game. We were seated right away. We ordered the shirmp cocktail, lumpr Crab meat, and sizzling bacon for the table. Everything was very tasty. We then ordered the main course me and another person shared the steak for 2, and my other 2 friends had the filet and the lamb chops. Everything was cooked to perfection, the waiter was so friendly and advised us on sides. Overall the meal was excellent and i will definitely be back again with Clients.
