Editorial Review for Maya's Lounge/ Indian Restaurant – by Kara Zuaro
The Scene
The female bartenders are swathed in kimonos and the menu offers some Indian snacks, but the Asian theme stops short before the decor. Cream-colored couches with earth-toned pillows line the back of the room, and multicolored lights beneath the surface of the mod, translucent bar set drinks aglow with a rotating rainbow of hues. Patrons share quiet conversation, and try to ignore the fuzzy techno soundtrack crackling in the background. On weekends, party promoters bring in a livelier crowd.
The Draw
Young professionals looking for a club-like cocktail find it here without the congestion. Saccharine-sounding specialty drinks--such as Exotic Emerald Elixir--manage to avoid sickly sweetness, and are made with top-shelf liquor. Mango nectar and whole lychees lend natural fruit flavor to the Mayatini, and the Sexy Sapphire Margarita is surprisingly well-poured--even though it's blue. The Diamond Fizz, a concoction of gin, lemon juice, and seltzer, is crisp and refreshing.

Insider Tips
Save MoneyFrom 4pm to 8pm on weekdays, everything from the bar--even the pricey specialty drinks--is two for the price of one.
Know Before You GoBefore you head in on a weekend evening, call ahead to see if there's a party scheduled--a dress code is occasionally enforced, and the club occasionally hosts swinger parties which are closed to single men.
The ExtrasBottle service is available in the back room with advance reservations.

I went there in Jan 07 for a friend's 25th birthday party. She had a private party there. The music was good because she brought her own DJ. We didn't order any food but were practically forced to buy something, because the waitress kept coming around asking us to buy something. The place is good on the eyes. I would recommend for a private party.
Pros: Decor pleasing on the eyes.
Cons: Waitress hasseling us to buy food.

I definitely do not recommend this place to anyone. I went to Maya Lounge with some friends to get drinks for my birthday. We went on a Friday night, and there was probably about 10 of us there. First off, the waitress was very slow, and kept forgetting our orders, even though we were the only ones there. We were ordering drinks and food for a good chunk of the night. All of a sudden, a guy walks up to our table and asks us if we want shots. We asked who he was, and after he told us he was the owner, we confirmed that he was going to give us free shots. He gave us two rounds of what we thought were free shots. When we get the bill, he ended us charging us for both! We had to argue with him to take 1 round off. My favorite part is, when we were leaving, he was offering free shots to the table next to us! We had to warn them that he was going to charge them. The bouncer and waitress agreed that what he did was pretty messed up. Worst experience ever! Don't go there, they rip you off. It's such a shame because the place is nice.
