I chose AR Salon because of its fantastic reviews. First of all, no one ever sat down with me to talk about my hair. My stylist, Sam, basically asked what I wanted, and when I tried to explain exactly what, he looked bored and cut me off. Then he insulted my hair. Then he proceeded to give me the weirdest haircut ever. After I explained that my bangs were too long and they need to be shorter to do what I want them to, he argued with me and refused to cut them. I ended up with an awkward cut that's way too long and blunt with a too-short layer on top and weird bangs that take forever to style. Actually, the whole mess takes forever to style and, when I'm done, looks mediocre at best. This is not a problem with my styling skills, as it's still an improvement over what he did to it before I left. The worst part was not the horrible haircut, it's that he refused to listen to any feedback I had. If I go back, I will specify one of the stylists mentioned in these reviews.

Pros: Pretty salon, complimentary wine, decent price

Cons: Horrible stylist, rendering cheap price irrelevant

After several disappointing and very expensive experiences at 2 other major NY salons, I was very nervous about trying yet another new hairdresser. But after reading great reviews, I made an appointment with Mark at AR, and my only regret is not finding him sooner. The salon is tiny and nothing flash, but everyone was very friendly with zero attitude which was a pleasant change. Mark spent 10mins going over what I did and didn't want and looking through colour charts with me. He also outlined the cost for each part of the service so there were no surprises and I got a great permanent colour and cut for literally half the price of the last Greenwich salon I visited. I would definitely recommend Mark and am very relieved my search is over. This is the only review I have ever posted - that's how happy I was with my experience!

Pros: Great value and quality, friendly staff

Cons: Very casual - not a trendy salon but definitely comfortable
