Extremely rude owner, boring unchanging menu. Communitea seems like it should be a friendly neighborhood place from its cute name, great light, exposed brick decor and casual homey food. However, the unsmiling, handkerchief-wearing, dark-brown curly haired woman who owns the place is extremely rude and acts like she's doing you a favor. What's strange is that her husband (partner?) at Lounge 47 is very friendly.

Today, I saw a man ask her what kind of soup she had (she was standing right behind the soup urns) and instead of smiling and answering, she points to the wall and says its written down and kind of grimaced. Plus, the menu doesn't change -the specials are just variants on the same old stuff. Thanks goodness Blend has opened right by it -friendly delicious and better priced.

Snooty staff & cardboard sandwiches. This "casual, easy" sandwich cafe is anything but! The staff are, as a rule, dismissive and act like they wish they were somewhere else. I recently requested some lettuce on a panini. The owner scowled at me and begrudgingly added two small leaves the size of quarters to each half. It was then toasted to a dry, bland, vinegar (meant to be chipotle mayo) cardboard mess. Would you not add the lettuce after if has been pressed? Can i not request lettuce on a sandwich? It's not like I wanted cheese on my seafood marinara pasta dish!! Not that there is anything wrong with that.

There are now so many better options on this stretch of Vernon Boulevard and beyond. I know Greenpoint is not LIC - but there is a GREAT cafe just over the Pulaski Bridge. Champion Coffee, 1108 Manhattan Ave. Between Dupont and Clay. Friendly, chatty staff, good strong coffee, and tasty delicious food.

Enter if you want a bad start to your day. I have been a resident of LIC for the last 3 years and started coming to Communitea since their opening. Given the limited # of choices in LIC one's options are constrained and this seems to permuate through the attitude of the staff in this establishment. Always unfriendly and make you feel like they're doing you a favor by being there...I can guarantee that once the # of options in LIC start increasing with all the development going on currently this place will struggle...and so it should. Avoid it if you can.

good food, good hang. i go here at least once a week. great place to people watch through the big glass wall windows. love the pimento cheese sandwich and the chocolate chip cookies! the people behind the counter are nice, too. wasn't a huge fan of the hummus. it's a little on the sour side.

Wow - what a find!. Simply a great place.....laid back vibe with broad selection of loose-leaf teas, great coffee and top quality food. Met some friends there so we hung out for a while sampling alot of things (curry chicken salad sandwich-mmm; Communitea salad; portobello mushroom & cheddar panini, homemade brownies - yeah!). Music was awesome. Has huge front windows so can watch the world go by and free wifi, newspapers, games, magazines.
