WORST FOOD POISONING EVER!!.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit that my family and I have spent nearly a couple of grand in this establishment since its opening. I've always had a great experience here .... UNTIL....
Last Thursday, my partner and I went on a date here around 7pm (keep in mind that the last common food reservoir we shared was 48 hours prior to our Momoya reservation). Around 12AM that same "night", my partner began complaining that she was feeling nauseous. I thought she was just stressed or something. That is until she got violently ill. 20 minutes later, I became violently ill. For the subsequent 14 hours, we were taking turns in the bathroom getting sick. It took us 2 days until we could eat solid food again.
When I called to report the issue to management, I was rudely informed like a child that I should have gone to the hospital and that they would not take the report seriously until I gave them a "doctor's note". Are you serious? While we did consider going to the ER at one point (it was THAT bad), we couldn't stop hugging the toilet long enough to even get in a cab, let alone sit in a hospital waiting room for 4 hours while getting sick every 5 minutes!!! We waited the suggested 12 hours, and when vomiting (and other unmentionables) stopped after around 14, we figured we wouldn't require a doctor. Momoya management also reminded me that they always use the "freshest ingredients"...well, maybe their employees don't wash their hands!!!
I did call my doctor and he said it sounds like Momoya was definitely the source and suggested to never give them a DIME more after their reaction. I will also call 311 to report this incident.
Best Japanese in the area!. Honestly it's hard to find a good Japanese place in Chelsea. This is one of the few choices we have. Food is not amazing but pretty good. Reasonable price and pleasant decor. Not fancy but great place to go with close friends.
Nice but over-priced. Stopped by this place on a recent visit to NYC. I used to live on 20th and 5th, so this was in my 'hood'. On a recent visit i went back with a friend, and we had a perfectly lovely dinner. Without noticing the bill came up to $300 which I don't think is justified. I eat sushi in LA almost every week. Even at Nazawa (see my review) which is a killer sushi, tab comes up to max $200 for two. So i would certainly consider this place a very good option if you are in the area and want a nice modern atmosphere and good place to linger, just think through the ordering process
Good choice for affordable quality sushi.. We went out for a special girls' night, and it was a great experience. Our waiter was helpful and attentive, and the food was fantastic. Especially recommended - the White Stone Roll. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food we had. All of the sushi was very fresh, and we especially enjoyed the tuna. A nice selection of sake, and the black sesame ice cream was a great finish to the meal.
YUMMY SUSHI. The fish quality is amazing. Flavors on the kitchen food are pretty authentic. Never been to the one on the UWS, but I LOVE coming to the one in Chelsea. Its the best Japanese restaurant on the west side.
Fantaaaastic. That Tuesday night is probably one of fantastic night that I had. I always appreciate something that beautiful, hand skill job. Cause I am an artist my self. That young chef had shown me something beautiful of sushi, unorthodox. I tried the omakase, it's expensive but the presentation is beyond worth it, and I recomend that to everyone, it's a chef choice of best fish of the day. Love it, be back soon. Momoya is so much better now than before, one of my favorite place to go, ciao.
Worth the wait.
On Friday night, I was waiting like half an hour just to get sushi. First time there, recommend by friends. I was hopping it better be good. But after wait with patient, a nice young lady finally gave me the seat at the bar which three young chef gotten beat up, because it was really busy night i could tell. I was wondering if i could get nice sushi, but turns out the chef was so attentive and nice even though He was so busy at the moment and I got my self the Omakase. Great presentation, nice and clean, so skillfull, the fish was so fresh and He got me the best fish of the day.
It's really worth the wait, definitely I'll be back.
good neighborhood sushi establishment. The sushi here is reliably fresh and the prices are reasonable. We probably eat here 1-2x a week and have never had to wait for a table or seat at the sushi bar. Service could be a little better, but food and drinks typically come out fast. The special rolls are really good- favorites are the lobster roll, nakamura roll, and Momoya's spicy tuna roll.
Cool Ambience, and the freshest sushi to match.. Momoya was indeed an experience of its own. The ambience alone is something that's immediately felt once you're seated. The chef's omakase hits straight for the delicacies and no minor detail is left unattended. The sake list isn't overtly extensive, but it does shoot for the main attractions that deal with body and dryness. Overall, a great evening was spent without my wallet feeling too exhausted. Highly recommended.
Spent the night in the hospital after eating here. I was really thrilled to spend last night in the ER after eating the Tekka Don at this Restaurant... I've eaten here many many times, but i've never had an experience like this before.... i don't think i'll be returning to this restaurant... if you like visiting the Emergency Room you'll love this place...
