Editorial Review for Momoya – by Kara Zuaro
The Scene
Blocks of blonde wood stacked like bricks line the walls of this minimalist Japanese spot. The staff, led by female chef-owner Chie Shirahata, bows politely to guests from behind a marble bar. A casual-yet-stylish mix of local couples and groups of friends gather at small, streamlined tables--their conversations buzzing over fresh, satisfying fare.
The Food
The black cod appetizer, nestled in a bed of melted-down spinach and pumpkin puree, is love at first bite. The edamame, tempura, and spider roll are impeccably prepared, but Momoya is at its best when it veers away from traditional dishes. Take a chance on the complex salmon, mozzarella, and avocado roll, topped with ikura and a basil-cucumber sauce; the house spicy tuna, wrapped in seared yellowtail; or the Nakamura roll, salmon tartare over yellowtail, salmon, tuna, cucumber, and jalapeno. For dessert, the not-so-Japanese moist chocolate cake with shiso sauce makes a decadent finale.

That Tuesday night is probably one of fantastic night that I had. I always appreciate something that beautiful, hand skill job. Cause I am an artist my self. That young chef had shown me something beautiful of sushi, unorthodox. I tried the omakase, it's expensive but the presentation is beyond worth it, and I recomend that to everyone, it's a chef choice of best fish of the day. Love it, be back soon. Momoya is so much better now than before, one of my favorite place to go, ciao.
Pros: Omakase Combo
