cardboard cupcakes. I ordered 1 dozen gluten free vanilla cupcakes. When I got home noticed they were in fact carrot cake and tasted like cardboard, very dry. We iced the cupcakes ourselves and that was the best part. Very disappointing.

Great Bakery, their cookbook is a scam. Love the bakery, great vegan treats, have been going to it since they opened. A bit pricey, but the best vegan bakery in the city. The cookbook however is a scam, the baked goods are nothing like the ones at the store, and are even inferior to the recipes you can find for free online. The bakery is great, the book is lousy. It's that simple.

don't believe the hype.... Ummm I don't get it. The place is cute enough as are the employees; very nice. The products just don't taste good. I walk by this establishment every day on the way to work and stopped in today to buy some chocolate cupcakes for my hubby's bday. They were beautiful to look at, but tasted weird. Also the carrot cupcakes literally tasted like cardboard. I'm not a vegan but I know all the vegans out there are'nt settling for this -Sugar Honey Iced Tea- they pass off as 'cake'. You could'nt pay me to eat another bite of this garbage. don't waste your money.... walk over to Sugar Sweet Sunshine and get the real deal; their spice cupcakes are the bomb! What a dissapointment this place is,

You really have to try this place!. As someone who is newly vegan AND gluten free, I have been sulking over the fact that there are no good baked goods out there (that i have found)....UNTIL NOW! My boyfriend and I visited Babycakes this weekend at a friend's suggestion, and we were completely impressed! We tried the chocolate gluten free cupcakes - which were topped with some of the best chocolate frosting I have ever had! We also had the carrot cupcakes with mock cream cheese icing - Also wonderful! I'm not sure HOW they succeed...but they do...and you'll never miss the 'real' thing. This certainly tastes like the real thing, with none of the guilt...or stomach pain/fullness afterward! We also shared a slice of the banana chocolate chip bread.....a real treat :) Surely anyone can enjoy this place...especially those of us who know how hard it is to accomplish perfect treats like these with none of the usual techniques!

Great Cuptake Tops!. The cupcake tops are amazing, as is the frosted pumpkin bread! The consistency of the frosting is initially a bit odd, but it tastes great! I will be a regular.

Good - Not Too Sweet - Lacking Wow. These were fresh and tasty - not too sweet but I guess they just lacked the wow of traditional cupcakes. For vegans and those who have specific dietary needs - this is a good alternative. The shop is tiny.

Don't tell everyone about this place. I want it to be my secret, favorite cupcake spot! Flavor, ambiance, friendly service and health value all make it a winner!. I am not a vegan, nor do I plan on becoming one. I have been trying EVERY cupcake place in NYC (all 5 boroughs) and this one is now my favorite. There are other bakerys that are slightly better in taste, but the feeling you have after you ate this healthy (or healthier) cake can't be beat. I got six and they survived the subway ride all the way back to Queens thanks to their nifty boxes they have there. The frosting is unbelievable! So good. And I was surprised how good the cake was. Moist and very flavorfull. The service. I don't know what is up. But the service was very friendly and warm. Maybe the best. And the store has 10 times more character then the other big cupcake bakeries. I love the bakers in the back! That uniform "takes the cake". I'm going back. Only draw back is the price. $21 for six cakes. Probably the most expensive I have paid so far.

Wish they were attitude free.. This tiny Bakery is a nice place to order (glutenfree) cupcakes, but the attitude I get from the staff is an issue. Besides from being very pricey the staff thinks way to much of them selves. I think they need to learn a little about customer service and stop being so rude!!!! would definatley incourage delivery. I have actually asked around and they seem to be rude to mostly everyone. Hope Babycake's owners read this and try to encourage their staff to be a little nicer to the customers who are paying so much for their so so cakes.

GLUTEN FREE AMAZING CUPCAKES. These cupcakes are not only Vegan, but also Gluten Free(if you choose the ones made without spelt). They are soooo good, I love them. The best part is not feeling guilty after eating them, because they aren't made with anything that is bad for you. IFor Easter I bought a cake, that can be special ordered. They made it so cute and it tasted just as good as the cupcakes, I like all the flavors, but my favorite is vanilla with vanilla frosting.

Go check this place out for Healthy treats you don't have to feel guilty about!

Some things you just have to try yourself. I just had to post something after reading robota's review. Tastes are totally subjective, since after being vegan for over five years, I have started trying some non-vegan foods again. I find the aftertastes of butter and eggs quite unpalatable, and if a vegan alternative of a baked good is available, I totally prefer it (no yucky buttery/eggy aftertaste!) So if you are vegan and you have not been to Babycakes, you simply must visit. If you are not vegan and want to see what all the hullabaloo is about with Babycakes, you must judge their goods on their own merits and not compare them to goods that you are accustomed to. Maybe you will miss the buttery/eggy aftertaste. Maybe you won't. Maybe you will like the texture of the food. Maybe you won't. Just don't expect vegan renditions of non-vegan foods to taste *exactly* like non-vegan foods. If they did, I, for one, would not eat them.
