The Scene
This underground pub is in good company on Seventh Street with nearby Burp Castle and McSorleys. A series of darkened rooms framed by pointed arch entryways give a medieval vibe, with beer casks lining the walls, and antlers throughout. Dark wood tables and two bars leave plenty of room for dining and drinking.
The Food
The beer menu runs longer than the food menu, and ale shows up there, too--in the skillet-fried beer sausage, a fabulous and savory companion to a hearty porter; in the beer-steamed mussels, which lack flavor and freshness; and in a belly-warming beef stew made with Victory IPA. Local ingredients are preferred by owner Jimmy Carbone, and it doesn't get more filling than the huge hunk of roasted spare ribs. Still, it's possible to go light with the salad of goat cheese, apples and walnuts, and the not-to-miss olive bowl. One caveat: What's listed on the menu isn't always available.

Went here with 3 others. The food had some ambition (or is it pretentiousness?), but execution of it was utterly mediocre. Portion sizes were on the small side - for the price I would have expected at least better execution or larger portions. I wouldn't waste my money here on the food again. The bar seems OK, so only worth going if you are drinking and not planning on eating.

Relaxed atmosphere and tasty chow - along with a creative and eye-opening beer menu. I have been back several times and there's always some new offerings in this ever-evolving space.

Jimmy?s has a cozy vibe, reminiscent of a place in VT. We sat at the bar, the bartender was 100% preoccupied with her friends and rude. In any case, when we were finally so lucky as to order, we ordered the Charcuterie Plate to start (Salami, Pickles, Olives, Sausages) Hanger Steak and Cast Iron Skillet Seared Sea Scallops w/sweet potato, bean sprouts, mushrooms and cashews. When the CP arrived, it didn?t have olives, but did have an olive pit cup! We asked the bartender about it and she said to the server ?Oh we are out of olives, right?? Suggesting that this might be the case, without being inconvenienced to confirm if this was true. The other waitress did not catch on quickly enough, so the bartender followed up with ?Do you want to check? which was followed by ?No.? This whole time both the bartender and server were talking to each other as if we weren?t there! Needless to say the server came back with olives. The CP was okay, but the salami and slice of ham seemed from a package of deli meat from the supermarket. The scallops arrived early, before we could complete our appetizer, yet my steak moseyed its way to the bar ten minutes later. I understand relaxed service, but when serving entrees to a party of two, they should come together! My steak was perfectly cooked but the dish was overly salty. The scallop description made it seem like the dish was going to be very hearty, which would fit with the concept of Jimmy?s, but in fact it was a delicate dish and the scallops barely came with anything. The three scallops came on a spoon full of off white puree (with a couple of lumps), but in general it was impossible to detect the sweet potato, bean sprouts, mushrooms and cashews. The dish was overly salty and mismatched conceptually. Needless to say we did not go for dessert because we were sick of feeling like we were interrupting the bartenders evening out. Unless you like paying for rude service and mediocre food, I suggest that you do not go to Jimmy?s!
