Hanging out at your own apartment probably isn't too far off from the experience at this East Village salon. The buttercream-colored room is cozy with sheer curtains framing the front window, wine flowing freely and a tiny TV softly running through movies. More audible, though, is the stereo, with a hip (but not overly so) soundtrack that matches the cuts and color you'll get in one of the salon's three chairs.
I'll never go anywhere else.

People stop me on the street to tell me how much they love my haircut. I don't want to gush, but this is the best I've ever looked. I came in not knowing exactly what I wanted, and Nikki took her time helping me find something that would make me happy (a short, asymmetrical cut). Their stylists are very experienced and well educated. In addition to being totally hot, my haircut is technically very well done and grew out nicely.
I've been to a lot of "hip" salons on the Lower East Side/East Village, but I've never felt as awesome as when I walked out of this place. Everyone is incredibly friendly, and the prices are completely reasonable for the quality.

I've been going to cutting image for some time now, and I've had such a great experience there that I've decided to post a review (1st one on citysearch!).
When I (male, mid-20s) moved into manhattan back in september, I tried out of a few stylists in the area, and Melissa was the winner hands down. She has a great eye for hair, incredible technique, and has one of the nicest, friendliest personalities I've ever come across. Every time I come in, I know I'll leave looking better than I entered, and feeling better after spending some of my afternoon chatting with her. Unfortunately, this poor NYU student has to step down to cheap cuts at the local barber shop (not that the prices here aren't very reasonable and worth every penny). That means, sadly, no more Thursday afternoon cuts at the salon. But, for everything you've done, thanks Melissa!
Best men's haircut in the East Village

For guy's looking to find a place that 's not a big hassle, but does a great job cutting men's hair, check out Cutting Image. Specifically, I recommend Nikki (Nicole Sifuentes). I have a suit-&-tie job, but I don't want to look suit-&-tie when I go out. I'm in my late 20s and Nikki's cut has allowed me to balance both professional for the day, and East Village for the night. Thanks Nik.
- Pros: Great Men's Cut. Chill Atmosphere. No Hassle.
- Cons: none
