After the last wash, this Laundromat was resuscitated as a booth-laden, brick-and-wood refuge from the East Village hurly-burly. At the half-rectangle bar--surrounded by brewing signage and lit red by dangling lamps--good-natured barkeeps pour 20-plus tasty brews, including Old Speckled Hen and offerings from Rogue and Sixpoint, enjoyed by affable locals that long ago kissed college goodbye. But with a jukebox blaring tunes ranging from Queen to Les Savy Fav, there's an anthem to make everyone feel at home.
Hits: Come for the chill early-evening atmosphere and sample a couple-dozen cut-rate microbrew beers, and you'll find it hard to relinquish your half-moon booth.
Misses: When the teeming weekend hordes turn the bar into a mob scene, nabbing a pint turns into a no-holds-barred battle.

I have been there many times over the past year and usually it fine. Election night was a disaster. The bartender (short guy with a beard who obviously has a Napoleon complex) was very clear about his disdain for politics The crowd was very into it, but he wasn't. Oddly enough, he claimed to have been the one throwing the party (if you hate football, why would you work the Super Bowl?). He was obnoxious, he took away drinks before they were finished, threatened a few patrons, refused to put the volume on, changed the channel, and was generally surly and a brat. At one point he and he even gave me $%#&@ for not drinking alcohol! I have worked in food service for years, and I guarantee if the owner was there, he would have been fired on the spot. I was one of those who left, and am not sure if I will ever return. We went across the street to Common Ground where we had an excellent rest of the evening.

I live in the neighborhood, so when they first opened I was hoping to find a new local. The place never seemed to develop much personality, but then I went in the elections night because they advertised that they were having an "election party". The atmosphere was great, and then suddenly the bartender switches off the sound an pumps up some obnoxious music. Everybody complained. The more people complained the more obnoxious he got, threatening to put on Fox news, and generally being nasty. Half the people walked out to a bar across the street! Seriously, BS. This place survives off weekend Jersey girls (no offense). The neighborhood has much better bars.

A great selection of domestic and foreign beers on tap served in real 20 oz. pints. All but 2 of the selection are 3 dollars at happy hour which lasts till 8 PM. In addition to US microbrews, there is British, German, Dutch, Czech and Belgium beers on the night I was there. Also a great selection of other drinks. Friendly place, great staff and plenty of well designed space. This is the neighborhood?s best.
