  1. It is rare that a small Indian place that is primerally for take out/deliver etc have sucha nice ambiance.
  2. This is not the best Indian food in NY, and the dining room is kind of small and non-descript, which is why I recommend it more for locals looking to have a comfortable meal, and do not necessarily suggest that people travel here.

Believe what you read, its the best.

by ChorkiesUnited

I had a hard time convincing my wife to try every Indian restaurant in the neighborhood before declaring one our favorite. We had dinner at AM once or twice before beginning the Indian dinner challenge and having come full circle, trying every other Indian joint within walking/delivery range, Alachi Masala wins.

There is a more than tangible difference in the flavor and overall quality. It is hands down the most delicious on UWS. Fresh ingredients, perfectly blended spices, generous portions, you cant ask for more. Moreover, the host could not be a nicer guy. Every time you go in, even if its just to pick up food, he smiles at you and tells you its nice to see you again. NYC has made me even more cynical, yet when he offers a handshake and a welcome I believe him.

I cannot recommend Alachi Masala more; it is now one of my favorite restaurants.

  • Pros: Delicious food, friendly service

Outstanding Indian Food!

by mes0101

We love Alachi Masala! The food is always wonderful -- spicy, hot, great ingredients. When we first got delivery, we were shocked by the amount of food: it was really enough for two nights. And when we had dinner there later, the food was terrific and the service friendly, attentive, but not fussy. Also it is a terrific BYOB: pick up a bottle of wine at Mitchell's on 86th or one of the other wine stores and have a relaxing evening. The lamb vindaloo is terrific, as well as the dal saag, the chana saag, and the garlic nan. I really think you cannot go wrong. And one of the nice things is that it is still a kind of neighborhood place, where you can still get a table on a Friday evening without having to wait.

  • Pros: Food, Service, BYOB, Delivery
  • Cons: None!

Best Indian on the UWS and maybe Manhattan!

by poisoniveeaac

I was suprised one day when I ordered delivery from my former favorite Indian restaurant Poona when the food arrived and the Menu had a different name on it. Everything I ordered was there and even better than Poona used to be! My father was born in India and I have been eating the stuff for a long long time so I know good Indian when I taste it! This blew my socks off! I knew I had to bring my friend there when she decided to give Indian a try for the first time. I went with her and another girlfriend- we brought our own wine (which is a great way to save money!) and were treated like Queens the whole time! It is rare that a small Indian place that is primerally for take out/deliver etc have sucha nice ambiance. The setting was quiet and lovely, the service was great and the food was the best! Now my friend craves Indian food on special occasions like her birthday! I have converted yet another to the love of Indian food thanx to Alachi Masala!

First timers try the Chicken Korma!

  • Pros: Price, Food, Service, Ambiance
  • Cons: small place, not good for large groups.

Simply the best

by LeJoost

After a few unpleasant ?episodes? with Indian food, I placed a boycott on the category for over 5 years. Wading into the waters recently my wife and I came across Alachi Masala and our lives have never been the same. The food here is off the charts good, the service is beyond polite and the cost more than palatable. The owner is often present and goes out of his way to make sure that you have an enjoyable time in his restaurant. And did I mention that it?s a BYOB? AM is by far the best Indian food I have ever, but ever, had and a UWS treasure.
