Best Value, Contractors were a DREAM, would work with them again in a heartbeat.

We did a gut renovation of our kitchen and used UHNY for both the sourcing of hardware and the contracting work. To me, there were three things that posed a challenge in this project: Working with our building (nightmare), having good materials at a reasonable cost and working with us (also a nightmare compounded by the fact that my wife was due with our second child near the end of the project timeline). UHNY handled all three of these with ease. In the case of my building-an overzealous board and strict strict adherence to house rules made daily entry and exit challenging (stop work at 4:30, arrival after 9:30 etc). Regarding the materials, I believe they remain the exclusive Aster dealer in Manhattan-and have worked with that manufacturer to provide options that are important to NY'ers like all wood construction.

We are very pleased with Aster for their price-quality ratio and features like metal drawer boxes and blum glides. UHNY was able to get Aster to create some 'custom' pieces for us and cut down some cabinets that needed fabrication onsite to accomodate a pipe that wasnt going to be moved. It was this willingness to go directly to the manufacturer to get what we wanted that made a huge difference. Working with my wife and I is challenging on the best day-and here is where UHNY really stood out-they were always available to discuss options, were always thinking of the impact to the overall project and our impending due date and especially in the case of the lead contractor (Sean) he was never surly, always ready with information, proactive about reaching out to us when needed and did not worry us when it wasnt absolutely necessary. We did finish our project in time for our second son's birth (about 2 weeks after paint went up) and the results are stunning. The workmanship, professionalism and speed to delivery were all beyond what we were hoping for. Their estimates were accurate and even with changes came in under what other vendors were pricing

spent most of the winter looking around New York City at kitchens showrooms and I was looking for European kitchen cabinets .I selected Urban Homes (this showroom is a small one but must-see ) .Their staff are extremely professional and from the beginning of the process right through the installation I truly recommend this Urban Homes.

Great product, horrendous service

Urban Homes undoubtedly makes a very nice product. Their prices are reasonable for New York City and the materials used are top of the line. However, the company is far too small for the number of jobs they take on. They are dreadfully slow throughout construction and unresponsive to emails and phone calls, their workers are disrespectful to the area surrounding the construction site (they made no attempt to clean the area or keep dust and dirt from invading the rest of the apartment), and they are extremely slow to respond to any problems experienced after the construction was complete. As anyone that has done a renovation is aware, there are usually minor problems that need to be addressed with plumbing, wiring etc. With Urban homes, after the last paycheck was received, it has been near impossible to get them to return to fix these issues, leaving me with partially functional spaces for weeks on end.

The bottom line is that if you are an incredibly tolerant person without any time constraints, Urban Homes will produce an amazing product. However, for anyone that looks for efficiency, responsiveness, and respect from their renovation team, I highly suggest shopping around or at least checking with a few references to see about other peoples experience with the company.
