The Scene – Tribeca becomes a small town at this adorable, retro soda fountain, where a treasure trove of candy, home-baked goods, and charming antique knickknacks are housed under the shiny, copper-colored ceiling. Mommies and kids settle in alongside bankers and brokers at the sturdy wooden tables, all pampering the inner and outer child for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just dessert. – – The Food – The menu focuses on comforting childhood specialties, thankfully dished out with way more care than the hair-netted cafeteria ladies of yesterday. Fresh roasted turkey…

Not like on TV

by Valdivia

I went to the Soda Shop because of a show on cable. Being a native of Brooklyn, New York, sometimes I walk right past places of interest and I must admit, I was lured into the Soda Shop because of the aforementioned show. My Husband is the nostalgic type, so I thought this would be a nice stop during our travels. Upon entering the Soda Shop, my Husband asked, "So what beverages do you have?" The gentleman there, who apparently seemed annoyed, said, "There are the menus" and pointed to them. I quickly interjected and ordered a chocolate egg cream soda. What I was served looked like a glass of muddy water. For those of you who know, this drink is supposed to have a nice chocolatey bottom, a white frothy top, and a spot of chocolate syrup in the middle of the froth. Did you hear me? Froth! There wasn't even any froth! Where was my foam? After seeing that, my Husband bought some candy for the kids. This same "gentleman" returned his change by "tossing" it a good 6 inches onto the counter. He didn't hand to him (as he was directly in front), or lay it on the counter. At that, I calmly advised him of my displeasure. We were the only ones in the store!!! Needless to say, we are never going there again.

Underwhelmed

by TheRaptor

After seeing the Soda Shop on "Cool in Your Code", I was really excited about going. After visiting, I have to say... I was a little underwhelmed.

Pros

-Food was tasty

-Portions were okay

-Decor is great

-Bathroom was clean

Cons

-Restaurant is very small

-The waitress, though polite, got my boyfriend's order totally wrong. He was brought a breakfast burrito instead of a Philly Sandwhich (those don't even sound similar). He didn't send it back, but after seeing the other reviews, I kind of wish I'd looked at the bill again to make sure we weren't over charged... because it was kind of a high ticket for two people.

-I've definitely had better shakes in NYC (i.e. Juniors)

-THE MUSIC IS AWFUL and too loud. Seriously... owners... if you are reading this... top 40 in an old fashioned soda shop??? That's just silly.

  • Pros: Decor
  • Cons: Correct Order Execution

Love this place!

by pumpkinpaws

We went for lunch today and couldn't have been happier. One of us didn't want lunch food and ended up getting a piece of amazingly fresh coffee cake. My other friend got the perfectly cooked burger with crispy fries, and I got the hot and gooey mac & cheese. It was a great meal on a cold day, at a cute warm place. And of course we couldn't leave without one of us having a black and white shake, and other getting the brownie sundae. It was an indulgance for lunch, but well worth it. We can't wait to go back.

  • Pros: Delicious food and great service.
  • Cons: Can get crowded, go early.
