“I've been to Bliss for their waxing and waxing only- they use Poetic Wax- which is less painful and irritating to the skin-I have extremely sensitive skin so I love Bliss for this reason- but this location always makes me wait at least 15 minutes for my w”
“On the plus side, I did get there an hour early to enjoy the steam room, nice products and showers, and the brownie bar and lounge.”
“fresh spatula was used for each application.”
“If you are looking for a nice place for a wax go to Completely Bare on 17th Street.”
“I'm sure you're wondering, "why did you go back a 2nd time, if you had a bad experience the 1st time?”
“The technicians were not friendly whatsoever for the facials and my friend who had the massage said her technician would not stop talking.”
“Even though I had asked for the more expensive services in all cases (not the basics), they all three tried to still sell me on more expensive treatments - Nickel and diming me - NOT VERY RELAXING.”
“My masseuse was good about asking where my trouble spots were, but unfortunately, she had long fingernails that kept digging into my neck every time she pressed hard.”
Best Massage ever by Esther.
I had the best massage ever by a therapist who goes by the name Esther. Her technique was second to none. We did a salt scrub on my back and a seaweed hot pack afterwards. My skin felt invigorated and my muscle tension just melted away. She had a great personality and made me feel so comfortable at all times. She also told me that she does facials on Sundays in SOHO. I cant wait to try her facials.
I will definitely be back to see her. I want to go every month. But next I want to try her facials...I will recommend this therapist to all my friends...you owe it to yourself to make an appointment with her.!!!!
Excellent Therapist - Jackie~ in response to jpjw. I would like to write a review and respond to jpjw about Bliss 49 and the therapist Jackie. First of all, I received the same service that jpjw did and was told exactly what to expect (heated bed, mask timing, etc.). Jackie asked several times if I was comfortable and to let her know if I became too hot. I assume that jpjw did not read the description of the service she was getitng because it was noted about the heat and everybody knows that has ever gotten a facial that your eyes are covered with cotton while a mask is on your face. Every spa I have EVER been at, the therapist does NOT stay in the room while the mask is on your face. Actually it is more comfortable to be alone while your mask is on on and you are able to relax. For somebody to come in and out would have NOT been relaxing so I do not know why anybody would want that. jpjw has no clue what a good facial/service is, obvously! Jackie provided EXCELLENT services at Bliss 49. I have been to many TOP spas accross the country and I have to say that JACKIE was one of the best therapists and Bliss 49 is on the top of my list. I cannot wait to return!!
Assembly-Line Spa. My husband and I went to Bliss 49 for Valentine's Day massages. What a disappointing experience. The receptionist who "greeted" us seemed bored and disinterested. We were pointed to the locker rooms/waiting area where I waited until 6:50...for my 6:30 appointment! My therapist asked me, as we walked out of the waiting room, "any problems?" She did not say anything else for the duration of my treatment. The massage was choppy--she didn't pay equal attention to both sides of my body and I felt, at multiple times throughout the massage, that she'd forgotten she'd already done some areas, so applied more lotion and started working again. She made an incredible amount of noise--moving her stool around the room and bumping it into walls, opening & closing drawers for no apparent purpose, etc. The overall environment of the spa is cold & sterile and the attention the therapists pay to you is about the same. Go elsewhere.
Why all the bad reviews?. I have no idea why there are so many bad reviews here - for one of the busiest spas in the city, it was a rather pleasant experience. I have only been here twice for waxes, but they are the best waxes I have had. The room was comfortable, with pleasant lighting and a very comfortable (and heated!) table to lie on. The technicians were nice and did a great job - practically painless (no small feat). The reception staff was clearly busy, but they were all friendly. Staff does try to sell you products, but how many products can you be persuaded to buy when all you're getting is a wax? Overall great experience - I will definitely be coming back.
The LEAST blissful experience ever.. I was just at the New York 49th St spa today for a fully loaded facial. It was the WORST spa experience I have ever had. The facial was going well and at the very end they applied a mask. Jackie (the woman I had) left the room without telling me or telling me how long she would be gone. About 15 songs passed (maybe 20 minutes) and as the time passed, the room became exceedingly hot, and the heat pad beneath me was on too. It got to the point that I was sweating and panicking. Here I am lying with no clothes on, with blankets that are making me too hot, a mask on my face and cotton on my eyes, unable to get up or do anything about this. I called her name at least 5 times and no one came. The whole idea of a spa experience is that it is supposed to be relaxing, calming and soothing, it was quite the opposite...I feel more stressed out and upset from having the service! When she finally came back, she tried to make up excuses, she never leaves the room, she thought I was sleeping so she did not want to disturb me, she was checking with the front desk about the temperature. I don't care what she was doing, she 1) should not have left 2)should have told me if she was going to leave and 3) should have checked up on me every few minutes if the problem was going to take 20 minutes to resolve. I will never go back to Bliss again, $300 for an OK facial and more stress than I started with is not a good experience for me. I am very disappointed and the manager was no where to be found. After asking, I was given the assistant to the manager. Horrible...I doubt the manager will even contact me. If Bliss is the way the spa is supposed to make me feel, it failed miserably. I had previously purchased gift certificates for two of my friends, I am going to warn them NOT to go in, but to maybe buy products instead. You have definitely lost a customer (one who goes to the spa once a month for facials and massages). I want everyone to know how bad the experience was.
Olga is the best!.
Her brazilian bikini waxes are as painless as they come. She is sweet, quick, and gets every last hair.
It is worth visiting Bliss for Olga's services. I would not go anywhere else!!!
Love my Eyebrows!!!. I have been going to Bliss 49 and seeing Antoinetta for my eyebrow waxing for almost one year now. I am a model and actress and having my brows perfect is very important, they always look natural and the service is always consistent. I will have to say that this is the best place to go!
The "Rubber Neck" was a flop!. I have been a patron of Bliss 57 for quite some time and have always had a pleasurable experience. I normally go for the deep tissue massage with a focus on the shoulder and neck area. I decided to try Bliss 49 as it was on my way home from work. I noticed on the spa menu when booking the appointment that there was a new treatment called "the rubber neck". I have to say, this treatment is anything but. The massage is supposed to be 60 minutes. The first twenty minutes were spent applying a hot paraffin wax to my back. The technician told me she would work on my feet while the wax dried. I don't know what she was doing but work she did not. It felt like she was tickling my feet for the next twenty minutes. I was getting pretty frustrated at the length of time this treatment was taking. I was there for a massage not a wax treatment. Finally she peeled the wax off and started on my back. She never asked where my troubled spots were, what type of pressure I wanted or where I would like her to focus. There was no pressure to trigger spots at all. The knots in my back remained exactly how they were. When I rolled over so she could work on my neck, I noticed the table was covered with drippings of dark wax that I was rolling over on to. It was pretty gross. It was also quite noisy outside the door of the room I was in which made it hard to relax. All in all, probably one of the worst massages I have ever gotten. I'll never go there again. Definitely not worth the hefty price tag.
more salesperson than spa experience. I went here for a wax and a bliss 75 massage. The wax was ok it wasnt the best. If you are looking for a nice place for a wax go to Completely Bare on 17th Street. That is a nice place with a nice staff. My friend told me that Bliss was good and didnt hurt but I felt pain and did not like it. The massage did not feel like 75 minutes. Maybe it is called 75 becaise i spend 15 mins in the waiting room. The waiting room was nice but I rather get my money worth. I dont care too much for crackers and water especially since I can relax there after my massage. well i had a male massage and he was very nice. Throughout the massage he kept on tellin me what he is using on me. I dont care what lotion he uses and stuff. If I wanted to know I would just ask him afterwards. I think the spa makes him tell me. That is why I said it is more of a sales than a relaxing place. I dont think the massage made me more relax. I felt the same leaving the place as when I walked in. The only thing I would say is that my feet are smoothier and I bought the lotion they used on my feet only because I had a gift card. If I did not have a gift card I do not think I would go to Bliss for a wax or massage. There was nothing special about them.
Blah to Bliss Spa on 49th and Lex.. Do not go here if you have any inkling of being any bit late to an appointment. I work in the city and my two friends were meeting me from Jersey. I called a half hour prior to our 5 pm appointments and let the receptionist know we would be a bit late, since my friends were stuck in traffic at the tunnel. She said no problem, as long as we were no later than 15 min late since it would spill into our appointments. This is understandable...but when we arrived and checked in at 5:15 pm, they told us to take our time changing into robes and getting settled. We arrived in the waiting room at 5:30 pm and our facials that were scheduled for an hour were cut down to 25 min and my friend's massage which was supposed to be 75 min was cut down to 45 min. They told us since we were late, that our services would be cut in half and we would still have to pay the full amount! The receptionist never told me when I called earlier, that we would not get what we were scheduled for but still had to pay the full amount regardless of timing issues. The technicians were not friendly whatsoever for the facials and my friend who had the massage said her technician would not stop talking. Overall, this place is overrated, not relaxing and a rip off.
