Crowning a Grand Central-area hotel where each guestroom floor is named after one of the ten major Dewey Decimal System categories, the Rooftop Bar is the tipsy offspring of corporate and literary culture. A fireplace and mahogany paneling project eighties Wall Street stateliness while the summery wooden deck chairs in the creme conservatory suggests a 1940s literary colony on the Cape. The demographic isn't quite so evenly split: Suited execs with loosened ties are more likely to mingle with casually attired Europeans abroad then bed-headed, rumpled-jacketed poets and publishers.
On a rooftop garden that accommodates smoking (and is covered come winter), secondary perks include a solid wine list and elegant cocktails like the Chambord Royale which artfully blends Stoli Vanilla, Chambord and fresh grapefruit juice. Come and join us at Bookmarks for a rooftop experience like no other.

In Short
This intimate, rooftop lounge--distinguished by a working fireplace and enhanced by dark wood walls, low lighting and comfy club chairs--attracts a neatly casual clientele that's more literary-minded than the typical hotel crowd. French doors open onto a slate terrace, inviting to small after-work groups with blue-cushioned U-shaped benches. In addition to wines, microbrews and specialty cocktails, the bar serves panini, olives and other snacks to keep the conversation flowing.

My friend and I came here on a Wednesday night. We were surprised by how tiny the space is! It is tastefully decorated both inside and outside. I think it's a great place for a date, but definitely not a place to meet other people. I would stay away from the cocktails on their menu. My friend and i tried 2 different cocktails and they tasted like shampoo ! yuck!! If you go there stick with your normal drinks (Tanq & tonic, etc.) The waitresses were polite and delivered our drinks quickly. Would consider go back here on a date.

Even with the cold weather, Bookmarks is a great place to go to take off the edge after work. You can smoke outside, if you choose, and then come cuddle up by the fireplace. I was introduced to the bar by a private party and immediately fell in love with the atmosphere. Then as I came back on my own, I appreciated more and more about the bar. The menu has a delicious variety of signature cocktails with literary names. My favorite is the Hemingway. I love to go on Tuesday nights because it's pretty quiet and the hilarious bartender is awfully cute. They also now get high end bar food delivered from the bistro downstairs, which adds an even better after work treat. Seriously, with good food, better drinks, awesome service & fantastic ambiance, this place can't be beat.
