“have only ever been there once before and the customer service was poor but not rude as in this case.”
Yay For Beauty 35!. I am usually very picky about where I purchase products for personal hygiene and beauty care. If its hair care, shampoo or cream I got to a beauty supply store and no where else. If its skin care products I only trust the major brands supplied by my local pharmacy and if its make up I am strictly a MAC girl. So it is without question that I am a harsh critic when it comes to venturing out to other stores. Anyone that goes to a Beauty 35 will finds themselves pleasantly surprised. Though the location that I went to was rather small and if there are a lot of people in there at a time it could get really cramped the store is packed wall to wall with a seemingly endless selection of top of the line inventory. I still don
Very Unhappy!.
I had bought a curling iron on a Saturday afternoon at this store. That night I opened up the box & discovered that the entire rubber handle was very sticky. It wasn't product sticky, it was as if there something wrong with the entire rubber handle because every inch was extremely sticky. With that being said, the iron was useless, so I packed it back up to return the next morning. I didn't even want my money back, I just wanted an exchange. Also, I had bought 2 other items there & was very satisfied with them. This product was only the defective one out of my purchase from Saturday.
When I got to the store on Sunday, I went to the front to exchange it & they flatly refused. They claimed that I was the one who damaged the iron. When I asked to speak to the manager from the day before, nobody seemed to know who he was & this guy I was talking too said "I am the manager". They kept on questioning me asking me why I took the curling iron out of the box. Excuse me, but how would I have noticed it was damaged if I had kept in the box! I was yelled at & was treated like a thief. I will admit that I yelled back, but only because they kept on insisting that I was the one to ruin the iron. After a while I just gave up & left the store.
I have to admit, I store police cars on 8th avenue & was almost tempted to go to one & report this store, but I was already so upset that I didn't know if I would make matters worse.
The good part is that there were customers in there who when they heard what was going on put their items down & said that they refused to shop there after watching how I was getting treated.
I will NEVER shop there again!!!
Extremely Unhappy Customer.
I was so furious at how I was treated I decided to come home and see if I could log my complaints anywhere. It so happens they have had unfavorable reviews before. In any case I wanted to add my review to CitySearch.
I have only ever been there once before and the customer service was poor but not rude as in this case. But this time it was unacceptable. I went in to do an exchange and also to do some research on some hairstyles. First they told me I could not take pictures, why I'm not quite sure. I did as they wished and started writing down the styles that I liked instead. Then they said I couldn't do that. Again I am not sure why so I said if you have a problem with this too then get the manager. She came and said I couldn't write things down because I was a 'spy'. Those were her exact words. From there on out I was watched like a hawk while I was looking for my supplies by EVERY illegal immigrant employee working at that store and in effect made to feel like a criminal as the reviewer above mentioned. One mexican employee was standing directly behind my shoulder the rest of the time leering at me under the guise of watching me in case I did anything against 'store policy'. Luckily I did get an exchange but even that wasn't completely smooth. I find that unusually suspicious people tend to be untrustworthy people themselves. Criminals act like criminals and think everyone else is a criminal. The shopping experience was of course completely horrible and actually stressful.
I am unhappy that I spent money there at all and will never go back. If you are looking for a beauty supply store in manhattan go elsewhere. Spend your hard earned dollars elsewhere. I did some research and will try Ray's Beauty Supplies instead. They are up on 45th and 8th ave.
avoid this place.. Avoid this place. I bought a $70 hair dryer there that didn't work and they treated me like a criminal when I tried to exchange it. I had my receipt and it was only a few days after purchasing it.
