Come check us out. If the decor doesn't pull you in off the street, the staff, the food, the specials and the boardgames certainly will. Blending the creature comforts of a lounge with the friendly atmosphere of a neighborhood pub, Common Ground stands out as a unique destination in the bustling East Village. The large bay windows in front open to reveal cozy suede banquettes, antique mirrors and exposed brick. Wooden shelves stocked with leatherbound books are lit by crystal chandeliers, giving the feel of a classic library tucked within a 19th Century mansion.

In Short – Were it not for the inherent modesty of the neighborhood, the crystal chandeliers, chocolate woods and shelves of leather-bound books might make this East Village bar seem high-falutin'. Instead, a warm, comfortable air permeates a room filled with low-maintenance, young professionals--think publishing, not banking--perched at the bar or at elevated tables along the wall, taking full advantage of a stash of classic board games like Connect Four. Quick to befriend the neighborhood, Common Ground is welcoming--though, retaining some class, not to rowdy bar-hopping revelers.…
A Great Find

- Cons: None
GREAT FOOD, REALLY BAD SERVICE
by screww
Great happy hour? You'd never know it from the indifferent bartender we encountered at our first visit to Common Ground. She didn't see any reason to inform us about any happy hour specials whatsoever. She was more inclined to pay attention to the people at the bar who seemed to be regulars. This shouldn't be a quiz night where we have to extract information from an amazingly lax bartender one clue at a time. The food, when it finally arrived, was fabulous. This, and only this, would be reason to give the place another try. The bartender did serious injustice to the cred of Common Ground. Beware, all who enter and come armed with knowledge of what it being offered.
- Pros: Fabulous food
- Cons: Indifferent service
Chill hangout in the East Village
by jamesondrinker
My friends recommended this place because they live in the neighborhood and they''re there all the time. So I gave it a shot. What a compfy place to hang out and relax with a cocktail. The red velvet couches are great for chilling on with drinks, food, and boardgames. The music is excellent and not so loud (I could actually hear myself think). The happy hour is amazing. We ate and drank a ton and spent about $15 each. The place was not too busy, but hey, it was a Tuesday night. I'll definitely be back.
- Pros: Comfortable, great music, happy hour, boardgames
- Cons: It's not closer to my apartment
