“the desserts delicious.”
“And when we were leaving nobody asked if we had a nice time, but we have heard three "good bye"s. It felt more like being in a diner, than at the restaurant.”
“will continue to come back here for the wonderful wine and cheeses.”
“Very poor service.”
“The watiress helped us pick out a really great and not that expensive bottle of wine.”
“Dinner was overpriced, subpar and slow to arrive.”
An Awful Evening.
Where do I even begin?
1. Reservation was lost.
2. Dinner was overpriced, subpar and slow to arrive.
3. Manager was screaming at the staff at the top of her lungs.
4. A waiter was very loudly fired while we were still finishing dinner.
5. The bathroom was a pig sty (never a good sign)
I agree with the post that says "just keep walking." This was a horrible experience.
something's off with this place.
I had faith in it because I love Italian cafe/restaurants, but the service and atmosphere just kills the vibe.
I've found the staff to be defensive more than once when I was dissatisfied with the food. I had to flag down a waitress to put in my order and I didn't see her again -- she didn't even drop the check.
They forgot to bring bread with the cheese plate and when they finally did it was a basket of a few tiny bread pieces and mini-blueberry and almond muffins...weird. The cheese was superb, though, so that saved the day.
Overall, this place is exemplary of how an inexperienced staff can ruin a meal.
Warm and inviting.. I've only been there for wine and cheese but it was great. The server was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The atmosphere is warm and romantic but also really low-key. Definitely a good place to go with on a date when you don't want it to feel too overdone. Also a good place to go with good friends for some wine and conversation.
Best Kept Secret. We just happened upon this spot after finding out Rosa Mexicana was on a long wait. We decided to take a chance and are glad we did. The atmosphere is very romantic although a bit loud. Our server was very knowledgable about the wine and cheese menu. The truffle cheese is truly divine!!! We also had the hen broth soup with creepes (sooo yummy), shrimp salad, gnochhi and vension. Loved and ate every bite, but did not have any room for dessert . We will definetly be back.
No problems here.. I have been here four times and with each visit the food, wine and service was wonderful! Although I wish they still had the Butternut Squash Risotto.
It looks cute enough from the street, but just keep walking.. It looks cute enough from the street, but just keep walking. Not worth the money or time. The ravioli was fine, but the portion was child size. The unexceptional fried porkchop is served with all fried side dishes on a piece of oil-soaked brown paper -appropriately underwelming presentation. The wine was good, but not enough to make up for the overall experience. Don't get suckered in by the outdoor seating and romantic lighting... there are many better meals further down the street.
Winebar??. The wine list is too small and the staff knows nothing about the wines. The food was basic food that didn't need to be cooked, cold and bland. Something about the layout of the restaurant makes this place really cold and uncomfortable. Sorry, I won't be back.
Overated.
I made a reservation for my wife's birthday, only to get there and find our reservation had been lost. The restaurant was crowded and noisy. The manager said they were sorry but could no longer accomodate us, despite the fact it was a mistake on their end.
When we said we would be willing to wait,or order for take out, we were told no. The owner refused to speak to us. It was embarrassing for me, upsetting for my wife.
A shame as we'd heard good things about the food.
Good Food - Bad Service. I've been twice.. on both occasions, food was very tasty.. the desserts delicious.. a good selection of wines.. the wait staff are very nice but the owner has a lot to learn when it comes to customer relations. Go for the food but watch out for the service.
Where stylish Union Square denizens go for wine, cheese and espresso..
In Short
Softly lit brick walls and supple Latin music welcome sophisticated patrons for Abruzzian wine and espresso. More than 30 vintage and largely muscular choices from Italy and Spain--including a sparkling red lambrusco--are enjoyed along a concrete bar, window counter or at wooden banquets in the elevated dining area. In addition to coffee and wine, the bar serves a rich hot chocolate, and nightcaps of grappa, madeira and cognac.
