Editorial Review for Chicory Brooklyn – by Kara Zuaro
In Short
The immaculate, no-frills cafe offers some seating, but most of its home-style meals are delivered or carried out. Glass counters show off marinated golden beets, neat blocks of mac and cheese terrine, and house-made sea salt and vinegar potato chips, piled into Chinese takeout boxes. Scones, pancakes, eggs, gourmet sandwiches, and hearty entrees, such as meat loaf, beef stew, pork shoulder, and chicken cooked under a brick, keep the restaurant going all day long.

So I live in the neighborhood and I want to like Chicory because I see it as a convenient and healthy alternative to take out BUT they keep screwing me. I have ordered three times in the past month with the hope the mistake they made the first time would not repeat. But now I give up. round #1 a chicken BLT sounds good then I get home and their's no bacon. round #2 The smallest cesar salad I have ever seen and a buffalo chicken sandwich, I hear the cook behind the counter tell the guy making my food "there's not enough chicken its too small a piece" and I get home and I have a pile of iceburg lettuce and a piece of chicken that fits on half the sandwich. round #3 tonight I try for the last time and yes the buffalo sandwich was right but the cobb salad with famous blue cheese dressing...no dressing. So I give up its too inconsistent and you can hear the cook be-little the prep guy while he makes the food and it makes me not want to eat there. Chicory is blah and its expensive.
Pros: its a last resort if your desperate
Cons: they will definitly screw up your order

Chicory rocks! I had the chicken under a brick, well prepared, juicy and flavorful. The side of baked beans had a hint of BBQ flavor that made it feel like a summer picnic. The escarole greens with lima beans really makes you want to eat your greens. And they have watermelon aqua frescas. Prices are very reasonable ($13 for all of the above, not including drink). Only caution I would have is that the dining room is warm and stuffy, so I'd recommend delivery or take out.
Pros: Healthy, tasty cuisine
Cons: Poor ventilation in the dining room
