We came in with a group of 20ish people, they gave us a fix menu for everyone with a fix price that everyone will have to pay ($30/each) and one of the owners guaranteed us we'd be full.
Well, food came and we were expecting to receive one individual plate for each person but instead they brought us couple of plates with serving for 1 person and we all had to share. From there, every single dish according to the fix menu was coming the same exact way. So, we basically were paying $30 each for appetizers because we had to share all the dishes. Plus we waited about 30+ minutes for each dish to arrive and it did not come in all at once, it would come in for half of our table first and then later for the other half.
After the "dinner" we noticed there was still some dishes that were in the fix menu that did not make it to the table.
This is by far the worst service I have ever received in any restaurant in NYC, so think twice before going there.
- Pros: good sushi
- Cons: Service

promising food, terrible service

I had guests in town and based on the recent positive reviews here selected Kion as our dinner destination on a Saturday night. While most of the food was delicious, part of our dishes were lukewarm to outright cold and the service was absolutely disastrous with over an hour+ wait just for the appetizers followed by another 30 - 45 minutes for the main entrees.
When our food finally did come out, half of our table was served while the rest of our table had to wait another 15 minutes to receive their orders (and this happened with both our appetizers AND the entrees). While initially most of us agreed that the food we did get served was delicious, we then discovered that parts of our dishes were lukewarm to almost half cold with one dish being nowhere near as warm as it should have been given that it was one of the delayed dishes (the servers kept telling us that the service delay was due to our food "just being cooked and being plated"...).
We would have expressed our dissatisfaction to our waitress but she disappeared towards the end of our dinner (the servers then tried to rush us out despite our interest in ordering more drinks). Maybe it was an extremely one, off night for the restaurant but it was definitely a disappointment for our one visit to Kion and we will not be returning.
- Pros: the one or two dishes of properly prepared and served food tasted delicious
- Cons: overall extremely slow and uneven food service, parts of dishes were served lukewarm to cold, servers disappeared, seemed overwhelmed and rushed us out
