Tips for Oscar Blandi

April 29, 2013

I decided to get a trim with Luca Blandi at the Oscar Blandi Salon. I showed him two pictures of what I wanted (one was a picture of me) and I came in with my hair styled so that he could see how I wear it. One of the first things that Luca said to me was that he was "having a bad day, and was not in a good mood." Looking back, even though it would have been extremely awkward, I really wish that I had just gotten out of the chair and left at that point.

I wear my hair very long, just past my bra strap, with pretty face framing layers that start around my chin. At shortest, when they are dry, the reach my lower lip. As Luca's assistant was blow drying my hair, I realized that Luca had taken it upon himself to give me bangs. Very strange, awkwardly cut bangs, that no matter how much time and effort I put into them, can't be styled to look good. I'm so sad about my hair, I can't even explain it. It feels like I have a mullet, and I can't understand why someone would do this to my hair.

Everytime I see a friend and they say: you got bangs? I feel so upset. Why do hairstylists feel it is ok to do something completely different than what you ask for? This haircut will take 10 months to a year to look normal again. I would not ever visit this salon again, I'm devastated by this awful haircut.

Antony for color...blonde or otherwise. Was prompted to write this review to thank Antony for his many years of careful attention to making my hair color (light blonde with highlights) the best it's ever been when I was asked (again!) who does my color? No one ever asked me that before going to Antony, but now I receive compliments often. I have followed him to different salons throughout the past six years and like going to Oscar Blandi's salon the best. But, I'd follow Antony anywhere!

Antony is a true hair color master. I've seen some of the best hair colorists in Manhattan over the last 20 years to maintain my blond locks - colorists with whom I've been extremely happy - but Antony is the best BY FAR. I'm 100% satisfied with his work every time. He's a true artist with a "less is more" approach. He's also a perfectionist (like I am), who pays close attention to each and every strand of hair he touches, giving his clients the most beautiful, natural results. He's simply the best. I feel very fortunate to have found him.

Calling all blondes!!!!!. I just had my hair dyed by Stephanie @ the Oscar Blandi salon and I have to say it looks Amazing!!!!!!!! Not only is Stephanie talented she is super sweet and knowes how to give me the perfect shade of blonde (every highlight is perfectly placed....I as glowing just writing this review). When I got home my boyfriend noticed my hair right away (he just usually says ya it looks good same as always...) but today he noticed the difference and even commented on the placement of the highlights ( that is how good my hair looks). I am the neurotic type who gets anxious when going to a new place....but Stephanie was my magic pill that not only eased my nerves...but my hair. Everyone at the Oscar Blondi salon is sooooo nice and they make you feel right at home!!!!!

Best Hair Salon in NY!. Someone recommended this salon to me after I had a few (very expensive) but unflattering haircuts and color that made me look like Elvira - Mistress of the Dark...

Been there three times already and got my hair color (and highlights!) by the very sweet and funny Frank (gorgeous too btw) and hair cut by the very talented Sharon. They made me look like a million bucks. People won't stop telling me how great I look and I know, "it's my hair!"

I won't ever go anywhere else!

Francesco Friscioni-Color Genius!. If you want to have want to have haircolor that looks like a super model's than Francesco Friscioni is your guy.

To say he is a genius with haircolor is an understatement. This guy knows his stuff. I watched him work his magic on clients sitting next to me & I was amazed. He knew exactly what shade & tone would compliment their skin tone perfectly.

He has a wonderful sense of humor & his charm & wit put all of his clients at ease.

I walked in looking like a brassy potato chip & walked out looking like a golden honey blonde bombshell.

NOBODY BUT FRANCESO WILL EVER TOUCH MY HAIR AGAIN!!!

KYLE AND NUNZIO ARE AMAZING. I had to tell everyone how amazing these two guys are. I was very nervous going to see Kyle and Nunzio. I was researching hair salons on the web and I wound up at the Allure web site. They have been voted Best of New York for sixteen different Best of Beauty issues of Allure magazine. Thats sixteen years between the two of them. I was pretty blown away by that so I dug a little deeper and saw these guys in Vogue,Elle,Marie Claire...the list goes on and on. I figure anyone can write a review on city search but getting Vogue to endorse you is a very real accomplishment. I

I worked up my courage and went to see them. I have two words LIFE CHANGING. My hair is so gorgeous that it has changed my life. I went out that weekend and met my new boyfriend. The first thing he said to me was "You have beautiful hair!" That was six weeks ago. I just went in for my first touch up and I cant believe it but I think I love it even more. I LOVE KYLE AND NUNZIO

Oscar is worth it. I had my hair cut by Oscar in Nov. Now in mid-Jan, it is still holding its shape as I prepare to return for my second cut. I've been everywhere in NYC and can honestly say that he is as masterful as everyone says. I usually have to battle with a stylist to keep the length that I have been painstakingly trying to grow out. He's the first person who said, "I think we should try to get it longer" and found a way to keep the length without losing all the volume. He recommended highlights and, while I was skeptical at first, I ended up loving them. They added a whole new dimension to my hair and look. Basically, for the past two months, I have enjoyed a classic but playful cut that has been effortless to style. I can't wait to go back.

Elizabeth to the Rescue!. 12/18/10

I just came home from the salon for the first time.I felt like I was in a factory! It was loud and it was packed. The hair colorist Diego told me that they see 200 people a day. So I figured, great that means they probably are the best and will do a an amazing job. WRONG! I came in to do a simple single process to get the gray out. I am a dark brunette, this should be easy. First he proceeds to blow dry my hair..this is very strange as it was not wet and it opens the follicles in your head. (You are not supposed to open pores in your head before putting chemicals on them, I would think common sense tells us this). Nevertheless, I am not the professional so I kept mum. He then carefully painted the hair dye on my hair. It literally started to burn like crazy from the second it touched my scalp. (I have never experienced this before). Everything else was pretty standard, then after it was blow dryed I looked in the mirror and noticed that my roots are light brown, an orange color! I could not believe it. He comes up to me and says "oh it looks beautiful".I said actually it's too light and orange. He completely ignored my comment and said please remember my name the next time you come in! Never again. I am so upset right now I want to cry. Beware...this salon is not all it's hyped up to be.

I just called the salon, they were very apologetic, and they said they would fix it. I hope I don't regret calling them again.. I will report back afterwards..

12/21/2010---- UPDATE

I am happy to report Elizabeth to the rescue! I came back in today to have my roots color corrected.

The Great:

-Elizabeth not only corrected the disastor, but she also gave me the best color I have ever had! 10 STARS FOR ELIZABETH..SHE ROCKS!!

-Her assistant was super sweet and understanding

-The woman who blow dried my hair was awesome, I think her name was Lisa.

-Hair looks amazing, super shiney...got a bunch of compliments already!

-The Bad:

After confirming my appointment yesterday, they tried to cancel my appointment to correct the color 2 hours before my appointment today! I had to wait on hold for 20 minutes until we all compromised on the time and they let me come in.

-They charged me 25 dollars for the blow dry! (You would think after all this they could throw that in)

-The Ugly:

-They tried to have me sign a form that would give them no liability in case my hair falls out or breaks! (So let me get this straight..your salon messes up and in case anything goes horribly wrong, I should take the liability?? )

-When I go to pay for the $25 blow dry, the receptionist informs me that my bill is $104 for the single process!! (I told her I came because of a hair correction from their salon..she gave me a face and then charged me the correct amount).

If only I went to Elizabeth in the first place! We live we learn!

On a side not, I really think a lot of these 5 star reviews are fake. If you click on the reviewers they only have one review.. food for thought...
