EXCELLENT SOUND, MUCH BUSIER AND A STAFF UPGRADED. I WENT LAST FRIDAY NIGHT AND IT WAS VERY BUSY. EACH BAND PLAYING HAD ITS OWN SOUND. IT WENT FROM BANDS PLAYING FUNK, TO ALTERNATIVE, TO BLUES, TO HARD ROCK. IT WAS A WONDERFUL MIX. A NEW BARTENDER THAT WAS THERE WAS FAST AND QUICK. AND SAID THANK YOU EVERYTIME YOU HANDED HIM MONEY. HE EVEN BOUGHT A ROUND OF SHOTS. THAT'S UNHEARD OF IN LIVE MUSIC BARS IN MANHATTAN.
Good sound for bands, bad crowd. My band played here recently. Contrary to the other reviewer, the bartender was actually really nice and attentive. And the sound system was great. Unfortunately, it was dead as a doornail, and though part of that was that we couldn't get any of our fans to go to the Upper East Side, the free bar upstairs didn't seem to be any better. The only group that was there was a bunch of loud, heckling frat boys who seemed to be friends of the owner or something.
Live music needs new venue. Went and saw a pretty cool band, but the service at the bar was some of the worst service I've seen. I had bartenders and owners with me and they were so frustrated. We've all seen far busier places and we couldn't even get the grumpy staff to look at us. Upon collecting the first round of empty glasses, there was no offer for another until we got the attention of another bartender 25 minutes later. I can't imagine why anyone outside of friends of the bands or bartenders would return here.
Editorial Review. Basement live music venue affiliated with Bar East upstairs hosts live bands and DJs on weekends, open mics and more.
