I went to Vino Vino for a friend's office party; they had reserved the back half of the bar. While any party is usually dictated by the people there, man, this place must have brought out the liveliness in some otherwise drab office folk. The place has a long, narrow lounge area separated by a glass wall from a wine store, which looks really, really neat. And the servers were very friendly and professional when engaged with questions. Admittedly, I'm a bit introverted and don't like looking dumb in public. In private I flaunt it. My friends think I'm a real moron, and I love that. But in public? No. So I was happy that the bartenders turned out to be real nice, explaining some details about the wine, some ideas about what to try first. Very open when talked to, but still there to serve, not to be chatty. I like that. Don't serve me wine, tell me what to look for, and than chat my ears off so I can't focus on what I'm trying to look for in the first place. Great in service and informative. And in general, we were there for a party, which turned out to be great. Ties were loosened, heels kicked off. We had a pre-set menu of maybe 3 reds, 3 whites and a sparkling wine. There were also cheeses and meats. Really good. I looked at the regular menu and the wine selection looks really cool, well-organized and like something I can wrap my head around on a date without looking dumb. Because I like to learn and to be open, but you go to some places and they rub in your lack of knowledge, so it feels. Some places the servers get off on their specialized knowledge. These folk at Vino Vino seem real nice, unpretentious. Which makes me wonder; though I'm new to the idea of "foodie," why go to Tribeca if you don't want deal with pretentious servers? Or is that a different neighborhood? I'm new to this.

Vino Vino located in tribeca has a good wine selection. Prices are a little on the high side. The bar is the coolest aspect of this place. BUT the sales people who work on the wine sales side are pretty rude. If you can get past that the place is ok

I've only been here a few times, but this place is, amongst other things, very reliable. It is a long, spacious establishment with a wine store inside, divided from the bar area with glass. There are comfortable leather couches - it's good for a date and for groups. The wine selection is large; I don't recall what I had in the first times I went, but this time I had a German red which was surprisingly sweet and not tart. This is a mature, classy wine bar. It's a far cry from the crowded, loud lounges elsewhere downtown. You will often seen customers in their 50s and 60s here quietly enjoying their wine selections and salumi platters (one of which I ordered in a previous visit and was very good). My only concern was that it was quite empty on a Saturday night... there were 3 sets of customers including us and when we left at 11, there was nobody coming in. I hope this was just an off night, I would not want Vino Vino to close! Extremely pleasant, comfortable atmosphere... GREAT for good conversation w/ wine. A must visit in lower Manhattan!
