In Short – With expansion into the outer boroughs, Newark and Long Island, NYSC's locations have become so ubiquitous that New Yorkers are likely to have a location near work or home, if not both. This emphasis on convenience extends to its signature circuit training program, the 22-minute Xpressline--not to mention the range of equipment, from Cybex and Icarian machines to Hammer Strength free weights. Other offerings include classes that focus on core-strengthening, flexibility and kickboxing.
AVOID THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE BLATANTLY RIPPED OFF!!

I cancelled my membership with NYSC and not only did they not process it for 3 weeks after they should have, but kept charging my card after my cancellation. When I rang the member services to complain, anyone I spoke to was so rude that it blew my mind that they would even be employed - let alone in a customer service capacity!! Finally, after my threatening to involve lawyers and because I had my cancellation form as proof, the rep made me wait on the telephone while she spoke to a supervisor to "see what she could do". When she came back she rudely said "well they said I could give you a refund so don't be so angry" - like she was doing me a favor, and then threatened not to do so if I didn't stop 'yelling at her'. Frustrated and angry I was, yelling I was not.
So, I was supposed to receive a refund but still haven't - and this has been going on since Sept, and then yesterday I received a phone call from NYSC billing department telling me that they are trying to charge my card (YET AGAIN!!) and that it won't go through. Well it won't go through because I cancelled the card to avoid any more charges being made by NYSC, and when I told this to the woman she refused to help, just kept saying that I have an outstanding balance and that she couldn't do anything about it and that I would have to call member services to sort it out myself. When I called member services, they told me that no one would have called me because my membership was cancelled and that I must have either imagined it or it must be someone who got my details and is fraudulently trying to charge my card! And then she hung up on me!!
And today I got yet another call telling me again that I owe NYSC money. And I still haven't received any refunds. And so the saga continues. And from what I have heard since complaining about them to those around me - this kind of thing is common practise for this company. DO NOT USE THEM EVER!! And certainly do not give them your bank or credit card details!!
- Pros: They have gym equipment
- Cons: ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING ASIDE FROM THE GYM EQUIPMENT
good value, especially compared to Crunch

This gym used to be a World Gym. It is better than most NYSC's, certainly better than the more expensive Crunch (Lafayette St.) around the corner. It is very bright, with large windows on both sides. The equipment is good, quality equipment that is maintained satisfactorily. This gym was better when it was a World Gym, as it has definitely become more crowded since being converted to a NYSC. NYSC plays very dorky, generic music. Bring headphones if you don't want some stupid Matchbox Twenty song stuck in your head.
- Pros: overall good quality equipment, nice single level layout for weights, cardio
- Cons: Need some new Lifefitness stationary bikes (maybe some Cybex bikes?)
