In Short – Brightly colored buttercream-topped cupcakes line an endless glass case in this long, narrow space. Cupcake flavors can be exotic, like sour cream spice or the almond and meringue Lady Baltimore, but the best seller remains the classic vanilla with two-inch high vanilla buttercream. Alternate options include pies, cheesecakes, trifles, muffins, peanut butter mud bars and assorted cakes. In the back, a picture window into the production kitchen is live dessert theater, mesmerizing little boys and girls.
LOVE

The best red velvet cupcakes EVER. I'm just disappointed that it's far from my apartment, which means that I probably won't be getting my fix very often. Too bad it's not a very homey place, otherwise it'd be worth the commute to come and hang out for a while instead of grabbing a cupcake on the run. But seriously, I'm not much of sweets eater, and this wowed me.
Better than Magnolia, though still not fantastic

Much like at Magnolia, I still found the cupcake here to be too dry, though it was certainly somewhat better. The frosting, however, was much better at Buttercup- it has more flavor and it not as overwhelmingly sugary as it was at Magnolia. It was quiet the night I was there- not much of a line at all, which was good. Still not my top choice for a New York dessert, though, even if it is better than that other cupcake place.
horrible customer service

Called to place an order for 4 dozen cupcakes for my staff. I made sure to ask if it was the location at WEST 72nd street. I was grateful it was past the cut off for large orders and they still took mine, telling me it was the location that I asked. When I walked to the west side location, my order was not there because it was at the east side location. I called the east side location mainly to let them know how lacking their employees are. I was told to ask for the manager, Tek , and when I did another employee had me explain the whole situation first. Then suddenly she was available. I wasn't looking for a refund or free cupcakes, but Tek was extremely rude and condescending. Saying that I must have not been clear...how much more clear can be than saying "Is this the 72nd Street location?" As a manager in a health club, I understand that mistakes can be made. I also understand that you never turn it around on the customer. Especially when I just spent almost $90 for freakin cupcakes!
- Pros: great cupcakes
- Cons: staff doesn't listen; management doesn't listen and is rude
