“"super tacos" (double wrapped and STUFFED with fresh delicious-ness), etc.etc....the list is long.”
Best Mexican in Village. I can't believe this place closed down. This was one of a handful of quality Mexican places in New York and it was so reasonably priced too.
Better Than Average, but Needs Some Work. Went to Pio Maya last night with a friend. It?s a cute little place, and the food was decent enough, especially for the price. All the ingredients were incredibly fresh, and the service was adequate enough for that sort of no frills restaurant. My only complaint would be that all our dishes were underseasoned and verging on bland. If they could just use a little more salt and some spice, I think this place could be a real winner. All in all, this place is a good find if you need something cheap and reasonably good, but they need to tweak their recipes if they want to knock it out of the park.
love this place. I'm from California, and I've searched all over New York for good Mexican food. I've found it at Pio Maya. The food is fresh and tastes like it's homemade. Try anything with beef in it, the carne asada is excellent. I especially like their sopes.
Perfect Take-Out/Delivery Mexican. All of the food was fresh, well-prepared, and a great value. I had a shrimp taco, chicken taco, and three chicken flautas, all for $13. The restaurant has no ambience, but is perfect for take-out or delivery.
fresh, delicious and cheap.
large selection of delightful foods: tortas (fabulous bread!), sopes (amazing!), "super tacos" (double wrapped and STUFFED with fresh delicious-ness), etc.etc....the list is long.
the food is so fresh, well seasoned and tasty they could easily charge a lot more and it would still be worth it. fast and friendly service. dine in or take out. food so good it is even worth a trip...
Hole-in-the-wall taqueria spices up Eighth Street's limited food options..
In Short
On a block mainly known for shoe stores, this taqueria offers shoppers something other than pizza or hot dogs. The tiny room, painted a mellow gold, has a few seats, but works well for takeout and delivery. Despite limited space, the menu is extensive, going beyond the usual tacos and burritos, to tamales, fajitas, flautas, tostadas, soups, and rotisserie chicken. A few higher-end items like a mole poblano platter are also available.
