Wonderful Doctor

by dnbarger at Citysearch

I was a student in NYC for a few years and developed a thyroid problem. I did some research online and found Dr. Maclaren. His waiting list is quite long, so I was lucky to get an appointment. He worked with me my lost two years of college and helped me tremendously. He always takes his time and explains everything in detail when I ask him questions. After I graduated, I moved back to my hometown a thousand miles away, and he still works with me over the phone and only rarely requires office visits. He's truly an amazing doc. If he's on your insurance, run, do not walk, to Dr. Maclaren. (He's a bit expensive if you're not covered.) I wouldn't ever go elsewhere!

  • Pros: takes his time, works with you from out of town

Avoid him if you like knowing your test results

by Honeytoad at Citysearch

Seriously, avoid him like the plague if you like your doctors to call you back. I called him four times in ten days after my test results arrived at his office. He never called back and his secretary kept saying that he's extremely busy, and that "no news means good news". I eventually asked for my results to be mailed to me so I can take it to another doctor. If anyone's interested, the test results didn't indicate good news. In short, he could be a great diagnostician for all I know, but no one will have the chance to find out if he NEVER calls people back about their test results.

  • Pros: Very nice secretary
  • Cons: NEVER CALLS BACK ABOUT TEST RESULTS, long waiting room time

Patronizing, unhelpful; waste of time and money

by reviewsnyny at Citysearch

This doctor was patronizing and extremely unhelpful. He kept me waiting almost an hour, and even though I advised him at the start of my meeting with him that I was not satisfied with T4 treatment and would like to try combinatio T3/T4 therpy, he waited until he had wasted almost two additional hours of my time to tell me that he refused to prescribe T3. He did not address any of my concerns about my thyroid, instead he insisted I must have an insulin problem or a gastrointestinal auto-immune disorder, despite no evidence to suggest either of these theories. I strongly suggest you try any other doctor; this one is a waste of time and money.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Kept me waiting almost an hour; rude office staff; refused to address any of my concerns, tried to order unnecessary tests, a waste of time
