What Our Expert Scouts Say

November 11, 2012

One of the oldest and most venerable of all New York pizzerias, Patsy's has a character all its own, mostly deriving from its remote East Harlem location and its ancient coal-burning oven. The pies are good but the slices are better, thin and crusty, and with the greasy orange cheese / sauce mixture that defines New York pizza.

Best Pizza. Being a New Yorker, I've had all sorts of pizza. Well, when I tried Patsy's, there was no turning back to the rest. I love Patsy's Pizza. I could eat a whole pie by myself.

The worst. The worst pizza I have ever had. Enough said...

I could have been severly injured!!!!!. Had dinner there tonight. I ordered the chicken marsala with a side salad and my husband ordered veal parm with a side pasta. The waiter urged me to order the broccoli rabe and split a salad. I took one bite of the broccoli rabe and felt something very sharp in my mouth. I pulled a sharp metal wire out of my mouth and then another one. When I called the waiter over their response was "oh no, not again" I was very nice, polite and calm about it. They said the kitchen doesn't clean the broccoli rabe well an the wire that holds it together wasn't properly removed. They apologized and we finished our dinner. The bill came. They did not remove the charge for that dish or offer us anything like dessert, coffee or anything to make up for the fact that the wire I pulled out of my mouth could have severely injured me. I was disappointed by their lack of concern for a problem that they knew they had in their kitchen.

Excellent Food and Atmosphere. This place is history, the food is phenomenal and the staff is super cool. I absolutely love the pizza but I'm too confused which dish is really my favorite. The place is clean and old fashioned and i think it beats all the other so called better restaurants.I LOVE IT.

Pizza the Old Fashion Way. You know that feeling when you walk into history and you get it everytime you visit the original Patsy's on 116th and 1st Ave. The smells, Fank Sinatra playing on the stereo, and the old world charm that has been replaced by fast food pizza.

This is an old world pizzaria like I remember from a kid. And, with pizzas starting at $11.00, it's no wonder the place continues to pack them in.

One of the Best Pizza places in NYC. I have been going to Patsy's for years and my kids would rather that I schlep to East Harlem to pick up the pizza than ordering from any of the great delivery joints we have around us. My kids are NYC pizza snobs so their demand is probably a good testament to Patsy's tasting pretty darn good. Their other favorite is John's Brick Oven in Greenwhich Village. If you don't like thin crust, brick oven pizza, you won't like Patsy's or John's.

Old-fashioned restaurant, great food, get what you pay for. I regularly eat, and have eaten at Patsy's for over 15 years and have NEVER once had a rude staff or wrong order experience. That's because unlike the disgusting & growing population of "barbarians" invading the neighborhood, I have manners. Understand that you get what you give. If you have a "stink" attitude, you will be treated appropriately. Understand that you don't go into someone else's place and decide that you will dictate how things will be AND have an attitude of entitlement, dismissal, and all of the things that make people hate you, and expect to be treated with anything other than what you deserve - rudeness. Because I know that you should always be polite to the wait staff, I am treated with respect, I receive perks, and the chef takes a little extra time to prepare my table's meals. I am treated this way at EVERY restaurant I patronize. I highly recommend Patsy's for civil people to enjoy a little bit of family-style cooking and atmosphere.

disappointed. Pizza slice was very small, and had mediocre flavor. Definitely not worth traveling for. Staff is very rude and unkempt. the pizzeria doesn't even have a display case for the slices. and the walls are dark and dirty looking. Very disappointed, after hearing how famous this place used to be, East Harlem is in need of a good pizzeria.

Worst restaurant in NYC. Rude staff, incorrect order, further rude staff, delayed correct order, more rude staff and finally a rude manager. Not a place to even try, there are hundreds of better restaurants in NYC.
