Butterfield 8 is a 100-year-old, 3000 square foot space that's dramatic crown mold ceiling evokes the nostalgic turn of the century feel of the classy New York speakeasy. A 35-foot granite bar equipped with nine clear vision plasma flat screens blends with the wide plank walnut floors. Back lit walls of white onyx and dark mahogany along with five massive Chandeliers creating a warm semi-formal setting. Patrons feel like they can enjoy a sophisticated meal or catch the game by the bar.
Chef Masekela Jones is thrilled to be opening Butterfield 8 with John and Chris after a triumphant collaboration at Savannah Steak. Focusing on comfort food, signature items on Butterfield 8's menu include the Butterfield Cheese Steak Sandwich made with sliced prime rib, topped with crispy onions and jalapeno cheese sauce, served on a toasted ciabatta roll.

In Short
Young midtown professionals flock to this restaurant and bar--named after a 1960s Liz Taylor movie--for American fare (wraps, steaks, and apple pie) and, perhaps more important, after-work relaxation. Guys in collared shirts and well-heeled ladies fill the brown-leather booths and jostle their way to the long wooden bar. Although the music gets loud and the crowd grows thick on weekends, few customers seem to mind after several rounds of draught beers and specialty cocktails.

I worked with the manager to organize a surprise 30th birthday party at Butterfield 8 in November and am just now getting around to complimenting her. She was totally helpful and offered many options for our party. We could have the back room (must spend a min amt), reserve several booths (no fee), and order some food. We reserved a few booths and they were cool about me bringing a cake I made. The staff was really nice, totally available when we needed them, but not intrusive. The bar is a step up from my usual "dive bar" hangouts but not much more expensive. It was a really great surprise party (even though the bouncer accidently asked the birthday girl if she was there for the surprise party--oops!) and everybody at Butterfield 8 helped make it special.

i was really excited to go here since the pictures of the restaurant looked awesome, so my friend and i decided to ht this place up for the dine about town week during lunch. i would have to say the service is slow as hell and the food wasn't even all that great. i think we all ordered the rib eyes. eh, i don't think i'd ever pay that much for food here. the only good part of this meal was the dessert!!

Top five favorite places to eat in NY .... yes that's right top FIVE! :) The ambiance in here is so where it should be. The lighting is just right .. not too bright .. not too dark. Perfect background for a fantastic dinner. The food is 'TO DIE FOR'! We had the mediterranean salad style salad --the best I've ever had!! My friend had one of their atlantic salmon dishes , and I ordered their sesame crusted ahi tuna --Wow, so yummy! We also ordered a glass of wine that was fabulous! I recommend to anyone.
