Butterfield 8 is a 100-year-old, 3000 square foot space that's dramatic crown mold ceiling evokes the nostalgic turn of the century feel of the classy New York speakeasy. A 35-foot granite bar equipped with nine clear vision plasma flat screens blends with the wide plank walnut floors. Back lit walls of white onyx and dark mahogany along with five massive Chandeliers creating a warm semi-formal setting. Patrons feel like they can enjoy a sophisticated meal or catch the game by the bar.

Chef Masekela Jones is thrilled to be opening Butterfield 8 with John and Chris after a triumphant collaboration at Savannah Steak. Focusing on comfort food, signature items on Butterfield 8's menu include the Butterfield Cheese Steak Sandwich made with sliced prime rib, topped with crispy onions and jalapeno cheese sauce, served on a toasted ciabatta roll.

Editorial Review for Butterfield 8 – by Lori Fradkin

In Short
Young midtown professionals flock to this restaurant and bar--named after a 1960s Liz Taylor movie--for American fare (wraps, steaks, and apple pie) and, perhaps more important, after-work relaxation. Guys in collared shirts and well-heeled ladies fill the brown-leather booths and jostle their way to the long wooden bar. Although the music gets loud and the crowd grows thick on weekends, few customers seem to mind after several rounds of draught beers and specialty cocktails.

My company was having a happy hour in the private room in the back. My girlfriends and I got there early and had dinner first in the bar area. Our server was very nice and promt considering the bar area started to get an inflow of happy hour customers. When our happy hour started we had out own private bar in the back with a bartender that not only was extreamly nice but also remebered my drink order! We love this place and can't wait to come back!

Butterfield 8 (see website) currently offers a deal so that if it is your birthday, your dinner and a drink are complimentary if you go with a group. Butterfield 8 also offers great party deals with open bar discounts, which I didn't take advantage of! The place was totally packed at 7:00 when we arrived for our dinner reservation, and we felt important being escorted by the hostess throught the crowd. Based on a virtual tour I'd seen on the site, I was given the booth/table I had requested in the back. The food was amazing, with great comfort foods, and a little flair to other comfort foods to give it a classy look on some dishes. I had a fabulous skirt steak, while my friends opted for wraps and sandwiches, but everyone loved their food and had a great time. I would recommend going here, especially for a birthday, when you eat for free! The service I got in the week before my birthday was impeccable and courteous, and the wait staff was also very nice. I'd return here for both the happy hour or a dinner! I shall be reocmmending Butterfield 8 to all my friends for their birthdays and hope to return soon! Remember to sign up for the BU 8 Club to enjoy the birthday treatment!

Pros: Food, deals, great drinks

Cons: Crowd (if that's a bad thing, really)
